Grrr one thing that pees me off is when people from other countries come to Australia and only see the east coast of Australia (im pure 101% aussie).
There is far better things to see on the north west side and the northern tropics than there is to see in Queensland where it is over flowing with people the scenery is no way near as beutifull as the east and north.
If you want pure 101% aussie fish muscle go to Western australia and see it all, from Mulloway to Marlin and then the best fish in the world BREAM :d.
Stop in and see Trouty in Perth and go for abit of a Bream fish :D (or as you americans call then "Crappie") and dont forget to hook into moster Snapper at Shark bay.
Theres just so much to do here in Australia, you could take a year long trip and still only see a tinny amount of this great country :D

First if you read Trouty's and the other posts you would see that he had done a great job pushing (marketing) the "other" coast of Australia . . . and that we are seriously considering the "other coast"

We will not spend a year however . . . "you aren't in marketing are you ?"

Being a Canadian I know what a big country truly is . . . and it takes seven days to drive across

Maybe I'll see you there on the "other" coast

aha it must be getting late over there in Cannada by now...or are you a night owl? :D
I actually live down the bottom of Australia in Victoria (Geelong, 1 hour drive from Melbourne) but i have been to Western aus and Northern aus before and it is gotta be one of the best places i have ever seen ( Arnham land,Northern Territory being my fav :D)
No im not a sales person im just a lonally fisherman :D lol
I think everyone could do a great job at promoting Australia as the best county :D
So If you have always wanted to be "big down under" Australia's the place to be :D

Starting in Newfoundland and going to British Columbia, and driving at least 650 miles per day (roads are not perfectly straight ) you can cross Canada . . . four lane highway all the way

BRUCE W . . . I have been through Virginia a number times and enjoyed the drive

Hi Sea_ Dad,

How many years ago did you live in Townsville? It has really changed a lot over the last 10 - 15 years

Back at ya Boating Bob.

I lived there in the 60's. I am certain it is completely different these days. When I was there they would only allow the abo's in town on saturdays.

I had a lot of great adventures there.

With 6 weeks in Austraila, you should plan a trip to the Kimberly Coast, on the west coast of Austraila. My neighbor just returned, this area is unbelievable.

Auguste, my wife and I were there last year for 3 weeks, definitly not long enough. We did about half of it in New Zealand and the rest on the East coast of Australia, Brisbane and Cairns. I'm mid 50s and guess you are about the same age. You will probably like Cairns the best, we did. Brisbane, Surfer's Paradise, reminded me of Southern Ca., too upscale and too many people. Two weeks is a lot of diving, I loose interest after a couple of days.

We plan on returning after we both retire when we can give it at least 3 months. The Ausies and Kiwis are some of the nicest people we have ever met. You are going to love it.

We have friends living in Australia and many who have been there many times over.

We picked up a second travel book on Australia last week . . . the one thing we are learning is that 6 weeks will never be enough

Now do we stay longer, or plan two or three trips

. . . so many good choices and not enough time

G'DAY MATE! im really interested to know why alot of people think us Aussies are the nice people......if only you knew our dark and evil side (evil silawet of crazy man with flames and screaming in background).
People speak very highly of us and it's pretty nice to know that where the "lucky country"from down under :D.
Is it because we say G'day mate and "......Looks like rain!" and we have a kangaroo called skippy that can talk and save little kids from Bomb explosions??????? LoL
