Random Quote: Did it broke or did it just come undid?
Well I am slowly loosing the battle with the Admiral over installing an inground pool and since I installed a new F200 on my boat last summer I really do not have much leverage in this argument.
Anyway we are getting somewhat serious and are looking a couple of different companies on friends advice.
What are some things we should look at or run from
Right now we are looking at a 16 x 32 with the vinyl liner with an 8' deep end. Kids are 21yr son and 15 yr old daughter so they will use it as well
I would like a larger pool but the lay out of our back yard is somewhat limiting without removing decks and relocating underground lines.
Also I have another question we or I have 2 chocolate labs that are in a kennel in the back yard and naturally I let them out several times a day when I am outside and our back yard is already fenced in but I want to make sure they don't decided to dive in which I know will be hard to break. This is a concern for us already, I have thought of one of the underground fences around the pool to keep them out. They are only out of the kennel when I am in the back yard

tprice: I installed a 16 x 32 (curved kidney) pool quite a few years ago. Any pool with irregular shapes, you have to remember everything is custom. Leaf cover, solar blankets etc. must be custom and then it can get costly. Even my curved kidney being irregular, is a bitch with a solar blanket. In fact too difficult, as I could not install the blanket roll up. Needless to say, quite using it. I would highly recommend putting 4 foot wide steps into the pool. Great for kids, older people and of course dogs getting out. Have your installer install jets in the steps as they will congregate leaves etc. I really wished that I had installed underwater lights years ago, but I think today you can get underwater lighting at a reasonable price. Some companies will only put a 3 foot concrete decking around the pool, look at 4 feet if you can. I think the biggest thing is the landscaping around the pool, waterfalls etc. into the water. Don't forgot it is a lot easier doing these things when the pool is built rather than after the pool is built. Also go with the salt water system. Hope this helps. Dwain
Your yard sounds to small for a pool and almost to small for your dogs [ Don't dump the dogs at my place] I f your wife thinks boating is $$$$$ wait till you own a pool for 5 or 10 years.
I would do a deeper pool , for diving , because someone WILL DIVE IN and a pool that small and only 8' you are looking a broken necks and a life time of law suit.
You might look at just a lap pool .
Also check with the NEC [ National Electric Code ] on distance from electrical wires ,over head and under ground , under 600 volts overhead is like 17.5' in any direction.
Def. of Pool = Bring Out Another Thousand or something like that

We had one put in last year and although I was against it, I think it's a great addition to the property. Bottom line for us was to go gunite. Liners tear. While a custom pool isn't cheap, it's not what gets you. The landscaping and deck are killer...
I'll bet you 10.00 you will be posting up in 5 years how to cheaply get rid of an inground pool...
John
Don't really want one now but you know how that goes, just something else for me to take are of around the house and according to the Admiral I do not do a good job at any of them
unless it pertains to Hunting, Fishing or the civic activities I am involved in

Labs and liner pools don't mix. I have seen several liners that were shredded by labs getting out of the pool. Their claws, especially the back ones dig into the soft vinyl.
I own a vinyl liner pool up north and a gunite one down south. To be honest when I build my next house I am gonna install a fiberglass pool. They are alot less maintance then a vinyl or gunite. A lot quicker install and if you have dogs they are not going to destroy it. One suggestion i would make is to design your deck so you can service the supply and skimmer lines. It can be a real pain when you have to dig under a large concrete apron to get to the flange next to the pool. I have looked at several companies and they all seem pretty well built. If I remeber right San Jaun pools has a very good web sight showing all there products. Another thing I am going to do is have it shallow on both ends and deep in the middle. If I rember right they make pools as big as 16' x 45' and every other size in between. It maybe a little more in the begining but take everything into consideration and you will see it really isnt. Dig a hole plumb it back fill and add water. You can be swimming quick. Good luck.
Had an inground pool installed in 2000 with a liner, have had no problems yet but my advice is spend the money on something else, pools are a pain in the arse after the novelty wears off, which is a lot sooner than you might think.
Just put an in ground pool over the summer ours is 18' at the widest and 14' at the deep end, it is 35' long including a 4 foot tanning ledge in the deep end. We only went 6.5 deep no diving board, but do have and 18" raised bond beam that is great for jumping. Be careful going to deep as you lose alot of usable pool space for socilazing or playing games. We had a salt system installed and never had any cloudy water, and is much easier on skin and hair. We are in Maryland so installed a heater as well and with only 16k gallons of water heats very quickly approx 3 degrees and hour. The tanning ledge/baja shelf is one of my favorite parts of the pool.
If you put in a pool two things I would say are must haves a Polaris pool sweep and a DE filter. I have owned pools(built 2) for 25 years. The other thing I did on my last pool was oversize the plumbing. You turn the water over faster and have less time running the pump.
1 Why DE?
It is the best filter medium out there it will filter out micro organisms when you back wash the filter and dumb out the DE you have an all new filter medium when you recharge the filter. Sand filters are good but all of sudden your filter times are going up and up and up why? Have to backwash when you backwash you lose sand and don't know it. One down side to DE is the plumbing of the pool is a little more complex.
2 why Polaris.
It will sweep and vacum the pool in about 3 hours. I don't have a vacum for my pool. The polaris just flat gets it done.
You buy these two things for the pool and your maintence is cut in half.
Re the polaris - you sould look at the new self cleaning pools - they have little air nozzles along the bottom that come on every so often and blow the dirt into the water so that it can be collected. My neighbor has one and it worked very well (I have the Polaris).
My pool is Marcite and I am very happy with it.
By the way, one other thing. If you are doing the integral in-ground hot tub have the auto-valve changers put in.
Also, try to put it where you aren't overlooked! Or do some landscaping to ensure the same.

... (curved kidney) ... Any pool with irregular shapes, you have to remember everything is custom. ...
I've known several people who used rectangular covers on kidney pools by installing the fasteners in the deck and not worrying about the over-lap. You do need an over-size deck, I guess, but you can always fiddle with the dimensions to find what you feel comfortable with.
Good luck!

When my wife started on the pool I said great. I can't wait till Lindi (15 year old daughter) invites all her girl friends over. I will be happy to supervise . That was 3 years ago and have not heard anything more on it.
tprice I have a fiberglass in ground and it is very easy to maintain. We got it from that place on I26 just out side of Orangburge.
I second not going with a weird shape, everything that involves covers and the sort are much more expensive. I would get a rectangle pool and get the automatic cover.
Also install a salt water system. Doesn't add much to the cost but makes taking care of the pool much easier. Also very nice on the skin and the eyes.
We have a blast with our pool and the kids love it, on the days it is too rough to take out the boat we hit the pool.
We are about 8 weeks into our pool project. I would recommend a gunite/concrete pool, salt system, water cannons, auto cleaner, lots of decking (not the typical 3 or 4') stamped concrete or pavers. I am putting twice the amount of deck as pool area.
I went with a free form with built in benches and a sun platform. It breaks up my boxy back yard. If the rain ever quits we should be through in a week or two.
