Drum Bay

I have recently acquired an old anchor exactly like the one shown above. I would like to find out more information on old anchors. Why is one of the cross bars bent? The bend is supposed to be there. Mine has the bend and is about the same size as the one shown but mind does have app. 5 feet of old chain attached.

The cross bar (the "stock") is bent so it can be pushed through and laid flat against the shank (and lashed to it) for storage on deck. The balls on the ends of the stock are there to keep it from coming out of the shank.
