Just curious as to how many people here have done away with their home/land lines.
I use to think is was stupid but I am seeing more and more people that do not have a home phone anymore due to everyone in the house having a cell phone.
The Admiral is dead against doing away with our home phone but she is the only one that will even answer it most of the time and even she has mentioned it is a waste of $60 per month.

Got my house phone down to what Verizon calls a "measured rate". 9.99 per month. I get 30 outgoing calls a month and unlimited incoming calls. Beyond 30 outgoing calls a month they charge .10 per call. I'd turn it off altogether, but my security system needs it to report false alarms that the sheriff charges me for!!
My F-I-L dropped his landline about 2 months ago. Uses his cell exclusively. I have my telephone through my cable provider, and am thinking seriously about dropping it.
As long as you have the right calling plan on your cell, I don't see the problem. The only heartburn I would have is how the cops/EMS would respond if I dialed 911 and could not speak for some reason. Their system for automatically finding the street addresses do not work with wireless phones.
All it took was a call to embarq to get my home phone bill down to next to nothing. Just told them i'm having a hard time keeping them as my carrier because it wasn't competitve. They fixed it.
I have a basic Verizon line and their DSL. For long distance, I bought a Magic Jack. 20 bucks a year for all calls and has all the extras, like call waiting, caller ID,voice mail, etc..
Have a land line only because my cable TV provider requires it. Have had the same cell phone number for 12 years and finally gave up on the home phone about 5 years ago. Love it.
After Hurricane Katrina, our phones stayed dead for over a month. I realized how easy it was to live without it, I called them and told them not to bother reconnecting me. Been great ever since.
I hate cell phones and only a limited number of people have my number. They just get on my nerves and it drives me crazy to be out with people who are taking calls the entire time. When I'm out its my time or our time to be out and to have no interruptions. Who in the heck is everyone talking to after business hours anyway's? Nothing like a nice day on the water with cell phones going off every five minutes and everyone having their own little conversations going on with that person on the other end of the line.

Am I glad I saw this. Thanks 2320, I'm on the phone to Verizon right now.

uh..friends and family?
Ok, I really knew who, I just don't get what they are all talking about 24/7. Now I get the ladies but when did guys start chatting with each other 24/7 and why go vist a friend only to talk on the phone with another friend. Its like a bunch of high school kids out together and they are all on their phones talking to someone else. The only thing that cannot wait is an emergency or something very important that has come and needs dealing with.
