I think poorly supervised children are MUCH more of a problem.
Parents who can not keep their kids quiet and seated in a nice
restaurant infringe on the experience of others.
I couldn't agree more. I'd purposely go to a "no children allowed" restaurant, but I'm not sure a "no cell phones allowed" version would have any particular draw for me whatsoever.
The problem with screaming children is that often the parents have learned to not even hear the oral assault that is going on to anyone within earshot. Everyone elses ears are bleeding, while the parents yell over the little bundle of joy's blood curdling screams in an attempt to have a normal conversation.
And before anyone says it...I'm sure it's not your child. It's never your child.
It's not your child.
Heh..you're right about that. I don't have any children.
You must be obsessed with what others are doing around you. It none of your business if someone talks on a cellphone in a restaurant you happen to be in.
Its not all about you.
Of course not. You must be an amateur (or professional?) psychologist because you sure are obsessed with what other people's motivations are for thinking what they think. It is, actually and most particularly, my business because I can either ignore it, or be annoyed by it. I've already explained this entire process. What part don't you understand?
It really isn't my business if someone elects to pass gas in a restaurant, but are you telling me I can't think it's rude?

Wow, that sure was surprising.

Concerning yourself with whether or not someone else is using a cell phone in a restaurant is obsessive. Yes.
How so? I do believe you've posted as many messages as I have on this fishing and boating web forum regarding the use of cell phones in restaurants. What does that make you?

Land lines are on the way out. You can now have a DSL line without having dialtone. Alarm companies are even offering cellular monitoring of their security systems. No land line needed. The telephone company is making its big $$$ on data transfer ie. DSL,T1,T3 lines and many are moving into what they call the television entertainment market or TV on demand.

edit: Some things just aren't worth the trouble. This is one of them.
Generally, discussions regarding cell phone use in restaurants or the behavior of children in restaurants aren't worth the trouble on boating and fishing web forums. Funny how that works. However, I think there are a few more minutes before Phelps swims again, so people need to pass the time.

If you are on your phone in a restaurat on an unavoidable business call or with a family member who needs to speak with you, that is one thing. If you are on your cell phone chit-chatting with a buddy, you are behaving like a 15 year old girl. I personally cannot understand why someone would want to even carry a cell phone in a restaurant.

Objecting to cellphone use, as I described it, in a restaurant just because you don't like it yourself is the same as objecting to someone wearing a blue shirt in a restaurant because you just don't like people to wear blue shirts in restaurants.

If they are talking in a normal conversational tone of voice what business is it of yours?
