I hate cell phones and only a limited number of people have my number.
Ditto!

tprice - 8/6/2008 6:19 AM .....................even she has mentioned it is a waste of $60 per month.
I have kept mine............. so far. Number is associated with too many things after 29 years in the area. I called Verizon and told them I wanted the line only, no long distance, no ans service, no call forwarding etc, NOTHING... It is under $20 amonth now and I have a answering machine on it sayin call me on the cellular, and if you don't know the number, too bad, you're probably trying to sell me something...
I agree w/ fishingfin---it's very annoying. Never get to go anywhere w/ the fiance without several interuptions, never emergencies. I think it's the responibility of the person taking the calls. Why not let the call go unanswered. Will we all die if we don't answer right away? remember when we did not have cell phones? We seemed to get along fine without having answer every call and get constant updates from family or anyone else.
I find cell phone yakers and pwc operators the two biggest aholes going. Both appear to be self centered and it's all about them, courtesy for others does not appear to be in the grey matter.

Well its good to know I'm not the only person who finds cell phones a little annoying. I have no problem with people who need them for work or using them to keep in touch with family and things like that. Its the person who comes over for dinner, I go fishing with, or just out doing things with that stay on their phone 24/7 talking to friend or who ever about nothing. I have so many people come into my office wanting to do business and they cannot stay off their phone long enough to do a 5 min transaction because they find the need to chate with friends. I joke on my own friends about chatting on their cell phone like a bunch of girls. It really gets annoying while out fishing or out on the golf course. If it within business hours and the call is important then it does not bother me but if that phone keeps ringing and they are just chatting to friend or family members and the call was not important then it drives me nuts.
I have often wished for a portable cell phone jammer as avaliable in europe. A quiet dinner or movie with my wife is usually interrupted by some chatty charlie or cathy next to me and it seems as though all of the accidents and near misses that I have been involved in were with drivers on cell phones. I think that the portable jammers only affect people within 20 to 30 ft of the user which would be nice!

I tell my friends and family to call my cell during work hours only if it's an emergency. After hours I only take calls if I'm not engaged in a conversation with another person...other than that you go to voicemail, sorry, you'll live. If I'm having dinner or out in public the phone is either turned off or put on vibrate. I hate to talk on the phone anyway so I have zero tolerance for this new breed of inconsiderate people.
I still have my land line and only use my cell phone for emergencies or rare convience. I had a situation recently that made me wonder about all those that are going cell phone only. I had a family member pass recently and as I called different ones to tell of the news, I had a cousin who I couldn't reach. I tried the phone book and called information after thinking their phone number maybe had been changed. I finally reached another family member who informed me that they had cancelled their land line and used cell phones exclusively. They gave me the number and when I dialed it, it went straight to voicemail. So I left a message for him to call me as it was urgent. After several hours of no callback, I ended up driving out to tell them in person. After breaking the news to the family, I told my cousin I had left him a message on his cell phone and he looked puzzled and said he hadn't heard it go off. He went to grab his phone and said that it had turned itself off because of low battery.
So, anyway, here is my question to all you cell phone gurus. Is there a way to find someone's' phone number through a registrar? Is there a number to call like 411 for cell phone numbers? What if someone's in an accident and the authorities need to contact you?
Interesting thread......Got to keep my land line because of DSL, but I think I will call and pare down the service.
As for inconsiderate cell phone users, I suspect it is going to take some time for people to adjust and develop good manners in use of cell phones--and some never will. I am sure I have been guilty at times, though I try to be conscious of the situation instead of just automatically answering every call, which is a habit too many people easily fall into.
The blue tooth ear peice is great if you talk while driving--I have about a 45 minute commute and I need to use that time for business calls. Much better than holding the phone while driving--although it is still dangerous no doubt about it due to the distraction of the conversation itself. I missed my exit the other day due to being engrossed in a call.....

HELL NO
I have a small family and we live within 10 miles of each other. We can easily drive if needed. We also both use ours for work, so we are pretty good about charging and answering voicemail etc....
If i could get rid of the company phones and not have any type of phone I would be a very happy man. Dont have a land line and just 2 company cell phones and hate the hassle.

I understand why cell phone users in a theatre or concert would be annoying but I do not understand why someone using a cellphone in a restaurant bothers anyone. People normally have conversations during meals.
What difference does it make if if you are on a cellphone and the people at tables around you can't listen to both sides of your conversation? I think it just annoys nosy people that can't hear both sides of your conversation.
