I will be staying at the Boca Raton Hotel 4 days next week on business. What is there to do? Restaurants? Clubs? Little hideway dive bars? Good tackle shop? Stuff for the family? Toruist traps to avoid??? Are their any Snook on the beaches now?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks in advance.

Hey man, you should be able to pick up some snook off the beach, or possible get a guide for a half day. Big retirement community, but don't know much else.
good luck

If you like Mexican in a relaxed atmosphere, head south on A1A to Deerfield Beach. Rattlesnake Jakes, great food and fresh fish fajitas. If you are staying at the Boca Resort, that place is awesome. They have their own ferry to a seperate Beach Club right on Boca Inlet, great boat watching spot on the rocks. Great Snorkeling on the Incoming tide on the other side of the inlet around the rocks. Tons of action down in Lauderdale as well.

If you have kids b/w 3 and 10, and maybe even if you don't, you can go south to Ft. Lauderdale and hit the Museum of Discovery and Science, or north to Palm Beach and hit the Dreher Park Zoo or the children's museum right next door to the zoo. Dreher park is a small zoo, which makes it pretty cool for the kids.

Also, you can take a ride up A1A to Red Reef Park. Very cool place. Bring your snorkel gear. There are patch reefs in just a couple of feet of water within 20' of the shore. Great place to take kids snorkeling.

There are tons of good fancy restaurants in Mizner, but I'm not much of a fancy schmancy guy, so I can't give you too much info there. Boca Beach Club has some extremely serious eye candy, so you may not even want to leave the hotel.

I had a business event at the Boca Resort about 7 years ago. Got to take my wife. While we were there, we took a walk along the seawall and I told her "honey, someday we are going to live here". About a year later we made it happen. I now live in West Boca about 10 minutes from the hotel. While you are there, ask for George, the food service/catering manager and tell him that Higgins says to take good care of you. Note: the beach club is under renovation, so the ferry across the lake is not running. Just across the lake (SE corner, right under the inlet bridge) is another hotel that rents jet skis if you want to explore.

Here is a live link of Lake Boca, the large open area in the Intracoastal Waterway, just inside the Boca Inlet. The Boca Resort is in the top right corner. Check the cam on the weekend and you'll see the non-stop raft-up partying, snorkeling, etc. Might even see a manatee.

You can rent small runabouts from the resort if you have time. Head south to Atlantic Ave for dinner at Houston's or north (couple hour run) to Peanut Island park in West Palm Beach. On the way to Houston's, take a left at Hillsboro Inlet and check out the working light house. Best beach access is close by if you have a car - Palmetto Park road east, until you hit the ocean. Here is a live link - nice pavilion, great beach. About 5 minutes from the resort.

Town Center mall is about 10 minutes away - all the hoity-toity stores and the world's largest collection of beautiful (and surgically enhanced) women you will ever see.

Head to 2nd avenue for the best bait/tackle shop in town - Ray's Offshore. Small but incredible shop. If Ray is there, you're in for a treat. His right-hand-man, Ed is pretty cool too. Tell 'em Mike says hi. Skip 7-Seas - it is a dump compared to Rays. If you want a hard-core, big game fishing shop, head south on Federal Highway a few miles to RJ Boyles in Pompano Beach. Beautiful new store. In addition, RJ is an artist that specializes in marine paintings and swordfish bill paintings. Gotta see those - pretty cool.

If I were in town that week, I might offer up a fishing trip. Check out this forum for some local knowledge - great group of guys and you might get a ride if you ask nice and offer cold beverages.

Not a lot of party/nightlife spots that I am aware of - might need a side trip to Ft. Lauderdale. Sorry - I just work, sleep, work and fish.

PS - that's the Boca Resort in the background of my sig.

There used to be a nice bar/restaurant on the ground floor of The Bridge Hotel with a grand view of the lake and traffic coming in and out of the inlet. The Bridge Hotel is on the south side of the Boca Inlet Bridge on the west side of A1A.

About 5 miles south on A1A is Hillsboro Inlet. One of my favorite places. There is a small City of Pompano Beach park on the south side of the Hillsboro Inlet A1A Bridge.

You can easily spent several days looking at boats. Just drive north from Boca Raton on Federal highway. There are more boats for sale along that stretch of highway than anywhere I've ever seen! Big ones, small ones, new ones and used ones. Thousands of them.

Love the area, just stay somewhat clear of the motels at the I95 intersections. They have bars on the check in desk for a reason. Get away from there and a great area!!

I'm sorry for you. however, outside of Rats Mouth there are some nice areas. Downtown Delray is kinda trendy. Anything south of Boca sux, until you get to the keys. There are some nice beaches and parks along A1A. Good luck. Lock your car.
