I like to fish a litte from time to time, but I like cruising and spending week-ends on my 28 Sea Ray cruiser. This site seems to be more about fishing boats and fishing which is okay, but does anybody else just like to cruise and go the new places? If not can anybody tell me about another site who has members like that?
I have found this forum while dominated by fishing talk, there are several members like you (myself included) who mainly use their boats for leisure. This forum is open to any boating discussion, and you will find members who enjoy just cruising also.
Thanks for the link to that one. I'll look at it some more later. Thanks also to the other guy for the link about trawlers, but thats a whole lot different than running around at 30 knots on a Sea Ray. A guy I work with told me about this site or I would have never known about it. How do you go about finding forums like these unless somebody tells you about them?
I'm a cruiser, when I want to fish I do it off the RIB or take an individual charter (doing one tomorrow morning).
I disagree that this is fishing heavy. If you go through the Boating forum, Photo Foruum, or Dockside there is very little about fishing.
I will second BoatingABC, perfect for you needs and boat size.
That's the first time you've said anything to me that wasn't accusing me of pretending to be somebody you know. So do you really have a big boat like in that drawing or were you just kidding me about wanting one some day?
I do both, but cruising mostly. Don't get me wrong I know how to fish pretty well and have caught some great fish, but I also love going to islands and spending the weekend and consuming mass cocktails.
I've noticed over the past few years that I have no dsesire to fish inshore anymore, just offshore.
I like to balance it. I usually fish early in the morning with a few friends and then will go pick up the girlfriends/wives to take to a barrier island in the afternoon. Last weekend I put in later in the afternoon and we fished until it got dark. It was a nice night so we picked up the girls at the dock with some snacks, drinks, and more life jackets. We went back out to cruise around in idle for a few hours. Even though I don't have a cruiser type boat, I have a 20' bay boat, we just bring towels so people can lay on the front casting deck.
I tend to catch a buzz whenever I go fishing too. They don't call me ccmadness for nothing. Now if I could just get these smiley faces to work on here.
We absolutely love to cruise and the longer the distance the better. I've gone over 400 miles in a weekend ( and spent over $ 1000 on gas ), but I can afford it and do it whenever the weather looks right. Florida is such an amazing place for boating and the beauty never ceases to amaze me.

We like to cruise as well but a CC is not the most comfortable for extended cruising - what kind of boat do you have that is comfortable for 400 miles in a weekend

i will tell what i like too is having ladies on my boat with bikinis.....
That is it !! I will have my wife in my boat, she will catch some rays, while I attempt to fish, then we will cruise around. 17' bass boat is not the ultimate crusier, but it works,,,
given my family situation (wife + 2 young kids) we use the boat mostly (probably 70%) for cruising...taking friends to a quiet creek and anchoring for a swim or picnic, going to lunch, dinner or cocktails at one of the myriad waterfront bars and restuarants in the area. we like tubing on the whaler...haven't tried it yet on the marlago! haha.
luckily, The Admiral does enjoy fishing, so we do some of that too...but her and my daughter's attention span for it is an hour at most, so we usually just bottom fish for perch and croaker...chum for stripers sometimes, too. with the new boat, i do plan to do a lot more trolling starting this fall and next spring...we'll see if my wife can tolerate 4 hours of trolling... if not, she'll be staying at the dock.
I fish and cruise. I would have to say I do more cruising than fishing even though I bought my orginal boat to fish. Found out I like cruising even better.
