I plan to cross to the abacos on or before 7-12-08 departure date will be dependant on weather predictions. Will be launching and leaving from sand sprit park on manatee pocket in stuart fl.. Would like to pair up with somebody. Our cruising speed is anywhere from 21 to 27 knots. Any coments or advise is appriciated

Make sure you have a copy of Steve Dodge's "Cruising Guide to the Abacos". If you don't need to stop for fuel at West End, I recommend running all the way to Spanish Cay to check in. Usually the customs/immigration 'office' in Spanish Cay isn't as busy as West End (and a lot more laid ******.

The last several years we've made the run from St Lucie to the Abacos in late June, but this year we're taking the small boat to the Keys.

Good luck and have fun.

Doug, thanks for your interest and advise. we have met mrs. nancy at spanish cay and hope to clear customs with her again. I just noticed a post about fuel shortages down there and will be following that with great interest. Do you think it is reasonable to cross alone in a 2002 25' wellcraft with well maintained twin 140 hp 4 strokes? We will have a few days to wait for good weather, but would hate to miss our reservations in green turtle. thanks again Pat.
