I've been looking for a truck that will pull a 23' contender. I was interested in the tundra but read in a magazine that it had some issues. It was truck of the year but supposedly their are many recalls, tranny problems, and suspension problems with this truck!!??? Surprised as I've had tacomas that are bullet proof! Not sure about their 8 cylinders if I even need it. Also possibly looking at the chevy S10 ZR2?
i have owned Chevys And now I have a Tundra. There is no compairing the two trucks . the Tundra is by far the best truck I have ever owned. The reason threr are so many problems with the new tundra is because it has changed big time. But do not worry Toyota will stand behind there products and fix it.

Toyota is being beat up on most fishing websites because of their recent 20 million dollar donation to the anti- fishing organizations. I guess you guys on here are in the dark on that. Anyway I just got my fourth f-250 in a row and would not buy anything else. I got the v10 and it gets a little better gas milage then the v-8.

I drove a friend's Tundra for a week while my Ford was in the shop. It is a beast, but a nice truck. The MPG totally sucked. I would not buy a truck with that bad a MPG, just to tow my boat on week ends.

Its all well and good that they stand behind their products. But who needs the aggravation of having to take it back to the dealer, stanind in line, explaining the problem, waiting for it to be finished (with a tranny it could take days), picking it back up, and then repeating the process if it wasn't fixed 100%.

Your Ford must be a Ranger or a diesel. Preferences aside, I average between 18.5 and 20.5 mpg in my 2007 Tundra with the 5.7L V8. Granted that includes a lot of highway driving, but I would certainly be surprised to hear of a Ford V8 beating that by enough to consider it sucky. Yes, towing it drops to more like 10 mpg, but so do most other gas engines.

Wow, I'm surprised by the promptness and vast amount of replies. When I said an S10, I meant the ZR2 V6 offroad suspension. The 23 contender is only 2300 lbs. I know this is hull only but it's a lot lighter than many other 23's out there. I guess I'm looking for something strong enough without suffering on the MPG's to much. My father used to tow his 23 Trophy Cuddy Cabin to Maine with a V6 Jeep Cherokee no problem. I will be trailering this boat to the keys in the winter from Connecticut.......
