Default Cover for Bed of Pickup Truck

I recently upgraded from a large SUV to a Chevy Silverago 2500 crew cab to pull our boat.

I travel about 140 miles round trip of highway driving from my house to the marina. For towing the boat the truck is great and much safer than the SUV.

But I am learning the nuances of loading up a pickup with all the gear- including fishing rods, tackle, empty coolers, cleaning supplies, etc. rather than a SUV.

After loosing one dock line to date, I am considering getting a Truxedo soft roll up cover to eliminate the possibility of something blowing out on the highway. And maybe provide a minor bit of security, keeping the gear out of sight, when making quick trips into the gas station or tackle shop.

Wondering if anyone has any experience with this cover, or a cover similar or any other suggestions.

Many Thanks
John

I've had a Truxedo rollup cover on the bed of my '06 Dodge since it was new - a little over 2 years. It's been great! Fits tight, has adjustments to make up for summer expansion/winter contraction (although being in FL haven't had to adjust it at all), and has stood up well to the sometimes brutal sunshine. As far as maintenance goes, I occasionally give it a good washing and treat it with 303. Dealer specifically recommended AGAINST using Armor-All on it.

My brother-in-law used one to cover his work tools. He said he got tired of the snaps to get stuff that he couldn't grab from the tail-gate and he was worried that it wasnt lockable. His next truck had one of those spring-loaded landau (I think that's waht they're called) tops. Then he switched to a cargo cap.

I preferred a full bed cargo cap (some folks call them campers). You can even get them with a full length tooll box accesible and lockable from outside. Wont take much effort to install rod-holders in there if you're interested.

If you'r tail gate doenst have a lock but you get a cover that does, a barrell-bolt on the inside lip of the gate will secure it nicely and you dont have another key to lose.

Good luck!

I second the vote for a camper type cover. I just bought a 2008 Silverado long bed and put an A.R.E. Z series cover on it. Looks great and is lockable. I bought some rod racks from Cold Tuna < look them up on Google > and put in the ceiling of the shell. Great as it keeps rods out of the floor and enables you to use the full bed for storage.

This is the best money I have ever spent on a vehicle. Period. Keeps everything dry, I can stand on it, light enough to remove when I need to, and it can be painted. Will definitely buy again.

I have the Access too. For about 5 years now. Still in great shape. I wanted something that I could roll out of the way
if I need to haul tall items but give me protection from the weather when rolled out. Its a little more expensive than the snap
type but those are a P.I.A. It has adjustable tensioners and cross bars to give the cover a tight clean look. Best truck accessory
I have ever bought!
