Reading a post in another thread regarding liters and gallons, I was wondering if theres any other reason, other than "being used to" to keep using the imperial system of measurements on US.
I was born in a place that use metric, but after almos 8 years, I'm completely used to the imperial system. that being said I still have a metric rolling tape that i use when I need to get really specific measurements...
The liter thing was out of necessity. When fuel prices broke a buck a gallon, the older fuel pumps only registered up to 99.9 cents, so they went to liters until they came out with new pumps.
CA tried to put KPH on speed signs in addition to MPH, but it got too confusing for folks, so they dropped the idea.
"But officer, even though this is a residential district, the sign said 50". "Sign here please..."
I guess it is like anything "new" untill you get used ti it, you hate it, we (in Australia) changed over years ago, and looking back now, we should have done it years before, after a bit of getting used to, it is so much easier, everything is in multipuls of 10, sure Litres and Kilos where a pain for a while, but unless you keep converting, then it is just a fact of life, and all School kids will only learn Metric, so to them, the old Imperial is a mystery now, make the break and do it, stick to it and after a while it will be a breeze.
Well, this way they can get to sell you 2 sets of wrenches, which helps to stimulate the economy. I have found, however, that a six pack and a hammer can pursuade a metric fitting to become English.....
I could personally care less as far as hand tools and whatnot go, but for the love of God, if you build a car, truck, boat, machine, ect, don't use have metric and half imperial, that is just a pain in the arse for everyone.
