"A league source familiar with the negotiations said that the Eagles were in fact negotiating with Randy Moss before he re-signed with the Patriots. When the Patriots decided not to use the franchise tag on Moss, the Eagles were like a lot people in assuming New England was working on deal with Moss and was a lock to retain him. But when word got around that there wasn't a deal and Moss was open to talking to other teams, the Eagles decided to throw their hat in the ring, though they always believed themselves to be a long shot.
Philadelphia first contacted Moss either late Saturday night or early Sunday. The Eagles offered Moss a $15 million signing bonus as part of a four-year, $36 million package. But they knew the only way they would beat out New England for his services was to blow the Patriots completely out of the water. Ultimately, the Patriots stepped up their offer and obviously Moss accepted. "

Big Ben at Pittsburg is getting a 120 million deal .Well don`t get me wrong I like football, but I think these kina salaries are an insult to the workin stiff sittin in the stands. No wonder why these guys use chemicals to gain an edge!.They could shut down professional sports tomorrow an it wouldn`t bother me.Now if the guys collecting my garbage went on strike and it started stinking to high heaven, now that would pi$$me off.

His deal is worth 102 mill with something like 28mil guaranteed. That 102mil he will never see but it makes him feel wanted to get this big contract.
Even if it is 28 millionthat still seems way out of line with that iron worker comming through the gate.
I disagree. The salary is market driven. If an ironworkers talents were worth 28M, then they would get paid 28M. If Ben was not worth it, no team would pay it and he would be off to something else. The NFL as a group is pretty good at paying talent what they are worth - the noted exception is the Philadelphia Eagles.

I agree. If there were 32 iron workers in the entire world that made all the supply, they'd get paid $120mm. But there are only 32 starting QBs in professional football and that's what the market bears.
BTW, I'm not a big fan of the gaudy salaries, but we only have ourselves to blame 'cause we buy the tickets, the gear, watch the games and buy from the advertisers.

Yea but that iron worker is not one of the best in his world and that makes a difference.
The NFL,MLB,NBA etc salaries are huge but it is the old economic theory of supply and demand. These great athletes, whether the we "ordianary men and wome" want to admit it are the best in the world at their trades and the fans, tv and etc will pay this money to see them play. Kind of like us grumbling about $3 gallon gasoline but we keep paying it
With that being said I am glad to see the Pats did keep him, IMHO I think it is the best fit for both team and Moss. He really seems to be very focused since joining the Pats

IMO most sports stars are over rated. Percentage wise, there are of course a few with professional qualities, which they will take with them after their sports career is over. Seems like the bulk however have secured some BS major in college which will take them nowhere. As a Dolphins fan for life, I have enjoyed watching Dan Marino play his years with the team. But better than that, he has done an outstanding job within our community also. And I've personally seen him attend his children's little league and hockey games. He is one of the ones which I think deserved what the market was willing to pay. As for most though, if I wanted to see a bunch of Randy Moss types run around and sweat, I'd go to the car wash.

From a fan's perspective I agree with you. However, from a business perspective, I think they both got it right.
Samuel already has two rings (I think) and got a lot more money than New England would have paid him by going with the Eagles. The commentators love to brag how New England keeps people for less money- it does not happen that way every time and will catch up with them just like it does with other teams. I hate it when players leave my team for money, but is is a fact of life for an NFL fan.
Moss has no rings, and had to go test the waters to get the Pats to give him a nice contract. From the reports, the guaranteed money looks the same (Eagles offered $15 million bonus, Pats have given $12 bonus, but guaranteed $15 million) and he is getting $9 million a year (same the Eagles offered). The Eagles did offer him another year, which is worth absolutely nothing since the contracts are not guaranteed.
I don't have any problem with NFL players making the kind of money that they do and don't begrudge them for getting it. They provide great entertainment that fans obviously pay to watch and advertisers pay to be a part of.
We do alot of work for personal of all 4 Boston teams
If you were making 350k a yr (league minimums) Would you need team staff have to call you for practice times?? How about appearances that they get paid for Not the charity stuff but the stuff they get paid for??
How about a player complaining because he had to pay the 400$ for the Insurance for a car that was given to him for free no strings or appearances??
These are some of the minor things amongst the young players It escalates with the payscale in way too many instances
The reason Moss signed with the Pats is because he has a REAL QB there.
I agree, also glad he did not stick with the "Dante Culpepper and me deal". Culpepper has never impressed me as a QB, really do not think he is that intelligent, but Brady will go down as one of the best of all time QB's
