Default Ford 7.3 PSD - Fuel economy

For those of you driving the Ford 7.3 Powerstroke diesel, what kind of fuel economy are you getting? If you have any engine modifications, please indicate this too. Thanks.

1999 F250SD, Banks Git Kit (Chip and Exhaust), K&N Air Filter. Checked last week - 17.3 MPG, mostly around town driving.

Sold my 2000 7.3. Had 35" Intake, exhaust, chipped.... 18mpg city to 20mpg on the highway (AS LONG AS YOU STAY UNDER 2000rpm). Great truck!

Thanks guys -- the truck is an 1999 F350 Crew Cab (the kind with 4 full doors) with an auto transmission. Not certain about the gears but I'd guess 3.73 since at 65mph she's at 1800rpms or so. I was thinking taht she'd get 18mpg while on the freeway and 14-15 around town.

I recently addded a K&N air intake kits to my 6.0 PSD and it made a HUGE milage difference. Milage went up 2-2.5 per gallon

Try this forum, too.... http://www.powerstroke.org/forum/ There have been several threads about MPG recently. Getting more than 16.5 out of my Excursion PSD is tough for around town driving; even with a feathered foot, no mods. I know that MPG went down in the past couple months, whether it's ULSD or winter blends, I don't know.

A question about after-market add-ons like air filters and compurt chips....... If they actually improve fuel ecomony like many say (and I believe these products do improve economy), why aren't these products offered as OEM?

My buddy has a 1999 Excursion 7.3 he gets 20hwy and 17 city, my Bro-inlaw has 2005 Excursion 6.0 and he gets 25hwy and 20 city
