Random Quote: Seems to me like you're confusing effort with results.
I went to the doctors because my right arm hurts like I wish it would fall off........he says it's tennis elbow. The blasid thing has been nagging me for a solid month now. This past week with all the shoveling of snow has it pretty much useless.
What have you guys done for tennis elbow that works? This thing is killing me to the point I'm butchering up the left arm.
I know that's wit on your part pug, but I don't play tennis and never have. Isn't tennis a girlly sport? I always liked sports where I could hit someone.
Get a tennis elbow brace. It is a thin strip with a small air bulb. You can wear it under your shirt. It worked wonders for me and I did play competitive tennis.

The World Famous Soggy Dollar Pain killer
A gallon will do it.
Pain Killer Home Kit
1 part cream of coconut, 2 part dark rum, 4 part pineapple juice, 1 part orange juice. I use a gallon jug, 48 oz can of pineapple juice, 12 oz of orange juice, 750 ML of Dark Cruzan Rum (it's about 25 oz - so close enough), 12 oz of Coco Lopez (the can is usually 15 oz, so I just use most of the can). Before adding the Coco Lopez, sit the can in a bowl of hot water, let it sit until it sounds liquefied when shaken. This keeps the little white specks of coconut from forming. Don't forget to garnish with fresh grated nutmeg. Enjoy!
Garret go get a cortisone shot in the area where the pain is. Then try not to use it for a couple a days. Usually inflammation is the source of your pain. The cortisone will allow for the pain and swelling to go away long enough for some relief. Good luck with it.
Don't sweat it Garett....in 6 to 9 months you will feel fine.....assuming you don't aggravate the injury during the healing period. Been there, done that.
Time and ibuprofen. Your doc wil probably prescribe the max dosage but pay attention to your kidneys. If you get pains in the back, just under the rib cage, that is probably your kidneys being irritated. You should stop the ibuprofen and check with the doc for an alternate anti-inflamatory.
If you can take acetominophen, it is usually safe to take with ibuprofen (for additional pain relief) but check with the expert, especially if you are on the max dose. Acetominophen can also cause kidney damage to people who are sensitive to it.
Unless you have circulatory problems the old standbys of heating, icing and (gentle) massage may bring relief. Do not go from hot to cold too rapidly. Also massaging after ice will probably hurt more because you will be a little stiffer.
If you dont already have one, a sling might help to immobilise your arm will reduce your discomfort and the chance of more injury.
Be patient. I waited a month to see the doctor when I had an injury like this. I got my injury trying to remove a large heavily rusted bolt. It slipped and seized rapidly and repeatedly. I got a series of jack-hammer stresses that hurt like the dickens around my elbow. After treatment it was another month before I had noticable improvement and several more months before I could stress the arm without "paying for it."
All jokes aside. Liquor does nothing to heal soft tissue. It can react badly with NSAIDs and cause organ failure if you are drinking heavily and/or taking larger doses of drugs like aspirin, acetopminiphen, ibuprofen or magesium salicylate (Doan's) or others in the non-steroidal anti-inflamatory group.
After a couple decades of pain from back and joint injuries I have a pretty good grounding in non-prescription pain management. Rest and caution are the real healers here. You may not feel any pain but the damaged areas are easy to re-injure. Use tools with shock-absorbing grips when you can and apply leverage not brute strength when possible.
Good luck!

I had it sobad that I couldn't even grip a wrench. I got a shot of cortisone in the joint and 5 minutes late it felt normal. He also put me on relafin anti-inflamatory for a month. I went to a neuro surgeon that had done surgery on my wife's carpal tunnel. He sure as hell knew his chit.
Let it heal brother.. I got the elbow when I built the shed (using the cordless drill strained it) and it took the better part of a year to heal. Why? Because just as soon as it was close to healing, I would be out raking leaves and aggravate it again, then I would use the drill again, then I would hammer - you get the idea...
I did get a cortisone shot and that helped to get me over the hump. Hurt like hell when I got the shot though. She found where it was most sore and then stuck the needle right in there and injected about a marble sized dose...
Do your best to let it heal.. My doc also recommended using ice anytime it got irritated..

Try the "O"Neill rugby joint cocktail". An injection of steroids (cortisone), short term numb juice and long term numb juice. (lidocaine and Marcaine). It will fix you up. Laird
The one and one shot did nothing for me - I had it bad. Was casted for three weeks, then three weeks of splinting. Then intensive stretching. Stretching is what has kept it away for over a year now.
Best stretch, reach behind your back with your arm straight and rotate your wrist up and out - so you palm faces the sky - called the maitre'd stretch (as if getting a tip behind the back. Whenever I feel a twinge of elbow pain, I stop and do this for a few minutes. Works by allowing blood to flow to the area.
Don't overdue the cortisone shots......my ortho surgeon told me the drug brings some short term temporary relief at the expense of weakening the muscles.
FWIW - he told me this when I woke up after passing out when he jammed a 4 inch needle into the AC joint on my shoulder......tennis elbow is like a walk in the park when compared to a shoulder impingement.
