Default December 7th – A Day of Remembrance

December 7, 1941 at 7:53am, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, Hawaii

Casualties: 2335 servicemen killed, 68 civilians killed, 1178 wounded.

The following day, on December 8, 1941, President Franklin Roosevelt addressed Congress:

“Yesterday, 7 December 1941-a date which will live in infamy-the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan. …”

In the course of your busy day today, see if you can’t take a moment to reflect on the events that rocked our great nation to its very soul on that Sunday morning, 66-years ago today. Also give some thought on how those events necessitated tremendous sacrifices at tremendous costs, for both sides, and what the final result was…and how that result wears today, 66-years later.

If we would have had Mr. FDR in office on September 11th, the news on the TV today would probably be much different....

Thanks for the post!

My mother's birthday is December 7th, and she remembers how everybody was crying on her birthday. If I remember correctly, she was born in 1936, but no doubt it made an impression.

Seeing the death toll on that day sure does put things into perspective as to 9/11. It's too bad we don't have such a clearly identifiable enemy now as we did when Pearl was attacked.
