I just got off the phone with my "buddy" from Jared who called to give me an ESTIMATE for repairing my 8 month old, $8K Rolex with a two year warranty!!!
It seems there are broken pieces inside the watch and significant damage to the case and bracelet. Seeing as how I am such a good customer, Rolex has graciously offered to repair/refurbish my watch for about $250!!! Get this, they can't assure me that no signs of damage will be visible when I get it back!!!
There was not a single scratch on this damm watch when I left it at Jared, nor is there any reference to said damage on my receipt they gave me when I dropped the watch off. My buddy assures me he is on my side, but goes on to say he's never seen anybody who would admit to having damaged a watch themselves if they though it would be covered under warranty for free!!!
I told my buddy that I had taken advantage of Jared's 12 month same as cash deal, and there is no way I'm settling for anything less than a new watch or a full refund of all monies paid to date! He assures me he is on my side and that he is putting in another call to Rolex to relay my feelings on this matter.
What a crock of ####!

Yeah with the money these things cost you should expect nothing but perfection. I don't know your story but it sounds like it got damaged while in the care a jeweler. You deserve for it to be the same asthetic condition as when you droped it off and in perfect working condition when you pick it up.
I have a SS Sub that I got from a buddy for 1,500 bucks. He bought it brand new in 2004 for over 4 grand. Its a beautiful watch but it won't hold time for more than a day and a half when not worn. I'm told this is normal. I have a kenetic Seiko that will hold time for almost a week without beeing worn.
That being said I still want a two tone Sub with the blue or black face but at 8 grand it aint happening. I'll just wait for my rich buddy to buy one and get bored of it in a few years and dump it on me for 2 grand.
take it to a certified Rolex dealer with your receipt. Maybe Jared has no leverage as I cannot find where they are a certified dealer on the Rolex or Jared websites...

Seems like we've had this conversation before!
It would tickle the crap out of me to find out Jared is not an authorized Rolex dealer. I just hung up with the folks at Jared's credit dept. who at first told me there was nothing they could do to suspend additional payments while this watch was being repaired. Having no desire to settle for that, I went up the chain of command until I found someone who saw things my way. He agreed to make an exception on my account to suspend any payments for 30 days or until such time this situation is resolved.
My guy here at Jared called Rolex back, but they were adamant that they would do nothing more than repair and refurbish the watch. He did manage to contact the store manager who was off today, and he said that they would take care of the charges from Rolex. I told him that was nice, but that I would not accept the watch if it were not 100% cosmetically perfect when it came back. He made a smartass remark that it would be in better shape than when I dropped it off, then I lost my sense of humor.
I reminded him of the procedure when I return my Omega watch to them for service which has to be returned to the factory for a battery replacement. They make an inspection of the watch noting any scratches or dents, and I am given a copy of this when they take possession of the watch. The store manager himself took my watch and most certainly would have noticed any damaged, especially damage that would account for the watch having stopped. The Omega is not a cheap watch at $3,200 so it would stand to reason they would take at least as much if not more care when they accepted a Rolex that cost more than twice that.
As for this thing being damaged, it's like I told the guy in Jared's customer service, this is a Submariner for Christ sake! One would think it would withstand a knock or two with that in mind, especially when the diver's life is on the line. I don't dive, but I imagine that keeping track of one's oxygen while doing so would be fairly important.

They have a few service centers around the country, took mine into the one in nyc and got it back about 20 minutes later. Although mine just needed a new bezel as it got hung up on my jeep and popped off. BTW the bezel for the SS Sub was about $250!
Hell, the estimate Rolex initially gave for repairing this watch was well over $400. I already feel stupid having paid this much for a dang watch, but this just adds insult to injury.
I hope the armed guard that stands at the door inside Jared doesn't have a Taser!

I just went to www.Jared.com
No where does it say they're Rolex dealers.
Bird, you just may want to check the authenticity of your watch.
Also check if they sell refurbished Rolexes.
Sorry to hear your watch trouble saga continues, on a happy note for myself if you recall in your intial thread I mentioned I needed to have my Tag repaird at a cost of 700.00 dollars. My wife knew how much I liked that watch and I have recieved a new Tag Hauer for my birthday , hopefully you will have a happy ending also.
Seems like the more you pay for something, the less you get.
For example, I had a citizens that malfunctioned. Couldnt find my receipt but no problem as they fixed it on good faith, no charge and even replaced the crystal and did some cosmetic work. I was about to buy an Omega but I was put off by the meager warranty and costly service charges for routine maint.

I've still got one of my Hong Kong specials but, the price is going up considering what you're going through, mines still a deal.
Really for that kind of money for a watch, that's BS.

I owned a Submariner with a black face, looked great, kept OK time not perfect but what I needed. I knocked the bezel off one day and thought well just one of those things-hit it just right etc. Year later knocked it off again, sold the watch after that and never looked back.
My Swiss Army branded watch keeps perfecty time based on the GPS and Atomic clock and I havent knocked the bezel off yet.
This isn't very good publicity for Rolex. I guess they've been spending too much money on marketing, and not enough on quality control. I'll stick with my Movado, although I can't really tell time accurately with it.. But then, neither can you, Bird...
Clam, yes, I do have the watch insured with State Farm, the same bastids who have lied their arsses off and refused to renew the insurance on one of my boats! I know it covers theft, but I'm not sure about damage. Lord knows I'd like to stick them with this one, but they'd probably cancel my homeowner's insurance if I did!
Endoman, as I stated in the first thread, Jared does not advertise being an authorized Rolex dealer on their website because not all their stores are Rolex dealers. The only problem I have with Jared at this point is the fact I have someone inferring I brought the watch back to them in a damaged state, this being the reason the watch stopped working.
Eyeball, I'll make sure I have somebody video my going to the store to inspect my watch when it comes back in. As an added safety measure, I'll be wearing an inch thick rubber suit and hip waders!
Lakebiker, what else can I say? Bite me!
