Re: Puerto Rico Advice I was in Puerto Rico last spring. Did not go to Mayaguez. Fajardo did not seem like it had that much to offer but from Fajardo you can take a cheap ferry (no reservations required and it only cost a couple of dollars) or a small puddle jumper- (was much more expensive but alot faster) to get to Vieques and Culebra, two small underpopulated islands that are just offshore. Lots of empty beaches, wild horses and not much else since the US miliatry pulled out. Worth checking out before the inevitable development begins. We ended up spending most of our time on Vieques, just about the best low key beach vacation that you can get. I highly recommend Bio Bay on Vieques The single best tour I have ever done- anywhere. - you kayak and swim at night in a mangroved line bay. The water has the highest concentration of bioluminecent critters in the world, the water literally glows green when you paddle through it.
On the island of Puerto Rico- El Yunque - the rain forest is a nice 1/2 day activity and so is Old San Juan. The people that we encountered were all extremely nice.
I do feel the need to say that San Juan is a very crowded city. And I would rather drive a car anywhere else on earth than on Puerto Rico
