Default San Diego

I need a nice hotel near the Kona Kai and Island Palms in late October. Both of those are booked and I must attend a convention there.

I am bringing the wife so something nice within reasonable cab distance would suffice.

If you know somebody who knows somebody......if you know what I mean..... the Kona would be perfect...

Your suggestions please...

Thanks,

I grew up in San Diego...can you define nice?
Shelter Island proper, where the Kona Kai is located, was developed some time ago and most of the properties out there are a bit aged.

But you're only 4 miles from downtown San Diego, so if that's not too far for you, many nice places are there...
Check out the Westgate, the US Grant, there's a new W Hotel downtown if you want something edgier.

What will your wife want to do while you're convening? And what will the two of you want to do in your free time?
Answers to those questions would help.

If you have the time, make sure you go eat at Charleys by the Sea, north of San Diego. It could be a pretty long cab ride, but would be worth it if you can make it.

Thanks Sheila,
"nice" would be something in between a Holiday inn express and the Marriott.

Budget would be< 200$ a night.

4 miles is fine

I would like K to visit mission hill, old town and the musuems.

(I hear Casa La Pica has moved )

I would also send her to La Jolla for a morning.

A spa day would be nice for her as well.

Why dont you come down and show her around?

Thanks.

Baitkiller, when will you two be in town? I have a daughter and grandson in San Diego, so I do get down that way. Why don't you try this: Go to Hotels.com (or your favorite booking website), use the search by address function, and type in the address of the Kona Kai. That'll show you lots of choices and prices. PM me if you like once you've had a look and I can tell you what I know about a place you're thinking of.

Sal, the La Valencia is still there.

Thanks Sshiela, I was just doing that I am looking at the the marina Hyatt right now. How close is that? Its undergoing renovations but should be 100% by the time we get there.

The dates are Oct 23 -- 28.

Thanks, john

It's within a few miles of where your convention is.

I usually stay downtown at the Embassy Suites or the Holiday Inn on the Bay (If I can get a bayfront room). I also have stayed on Harbor Island at the Sheraton, there are 2, and the Hilton. Everything is easly accessable for these locations. LaJolla is about a 35 minutes drive north. You should try the Fish Market on the Bay. Great food and atmosphere. You can eat right at the food bar while they make your dinner in front of you on the grills. Also check out the Gas lam quarter. My favorite place is Patrick's II, An Irish Blues bar.

Good Luck and BTW San Diego is not Cheap and it will be difficult to find a room for under 200, book asap.
