Default Goldens And Sprinklers

My Golden Retriever pup who is now about 9 months old had himself a fine time yesterday having spent his first morning with the sprinkler system turned on in our fenced back yard.

The wife usually sets the system to come on before we all get up as he sleeps in the bathroom at night. Yesterday was different for some reason. When she came home, "Dozer" was soaking wet, and instead of his usual mad dash to the door, he crept up with his head held low. "Rut row"!

Michelle soon discovered he had chewed off two sprinkler heads which are only visible when they pop up and spray. Now we have two lovely water fountains in the back yard! I would love to have video of him and those sprinkler heads!

My Labs do it all of the time. It is a real game with them. They "snap" at the water stream and ultimately bite the sprinkler head. You have the right answer, program the sprinklers when the dog is not outside.

My lab (now about 1 2/2 years old) has virtually destroyed everything I used to own outside the four walls of the house. I love her, but sometimes wonder if she was worth it. Starting to calm down a little now.

Oh, GOOD!! I thought Bandit had "issues" with the hose....

He LOVES to get sprayed and then run from it with his butt tucked goin' full bore and then charges back at it snappin' that jaw and showin' those teeth. CRACKS ME UP!!

Our 9 mo golden eats shoes and flip flops.

Waiting for him to settle down.

great family dog for our 2 kids and us.

I have foundn that lots of exercise and play time with other dogs keeps him a bit tired and much less destructive. He hasn't damaged anything that expensive yet, except for a small japanese maple tree. He has laid off of the landscaping the past several months.

enjoy him

Actually, outside some landscaping, Dozer does pretty good as long as he has his toys to chew on instead of other things. He finally within the last month realized that hanging out in the fenced backyard was more fun than escaping out from under it and finding himself back in his cage.

He's unlike a black lab pup we had a few years ago who was a terror! That dog even dug up the drain lines for the gutters! She is the only dog I ever gave up on and gave away out of self defense.

Watching Dozer and Ryan together makes it all wortwhile, except for when they get to playing too rough and Ryan comes out on the short end of the stick crying about being bitten! It's so funny to see him try to teach Dozer the same things we teach him about minding and following the rules. Dozer just sits and looks at him with his head titled as if to say, "huh?", sorta like Ryan!

Oh yeah, Dozer lost some of his "man parts", as Ryan calls them, so maybe he will settle down a bit. Ryan had a hard time figuring that one out as well as why Dozer had to wear that lamp shade on his head for a few days.

Dogs and kids, gotta love 'em!

We were told when we got our first yellow lab, that the amount of damage they do or don't do is directly commensurate to the amount of time we spend entertaining them! Boy truer words were never spoken. This breed loves attention, companionship and playtime. If anyone is on the fence about getting one think about how much time you have to spend with them. Oh, and forget that bull$#t that they will settle down after a year or two, or when you get them fixed. They outgrow the "puppy" stage somewhere around 8 yrs. old.
That being said, they are the best breed I have ever owned!
