Tai-Chi Ch'uan is an excellent therapy practice when looking for balance between the mind and body. When done properly it is said to promote health and peace within one's self. This form of soft martial-arts will expose the practitioner to the ying and yang in one self and life while stimulating the flow of blood throughout the body keeping joints open and muscles smooth and pliable. Actually I applaud the Chinese for dedicating 30 min worth of time to this practice before each shift......IMO only good can come from it!
I used to walk a lot on the bike path under the Verrazano Bridge when I live in Brooklyn. I always saw numerous Asians practicing. It always made me stop and watch from a distance; it was hypnotic. Maybe when I have more time.
Garret-fwiw you are partially right. There are many different forms and styles of Tai Chi and in fact some are done very fast just like gung fu. All true martial art forms are active meditation -the benefits of tai chi- shifting of weight, centering balance, pliablility over ridgedness, moving chi, etc... dont care if they are moving fast or slow. Basic forms are often taught slow so us dopey westerners can understand and perfect the physical movements while working on the other more important aspects. In addition all real tai chi forms are deeply rooted in martial techniques. All the movements are joint locks (chin-na), strikes, kicks, etc... Cool art.
No , cool art is a Colt Python 357 with a 6" barrel.

rcatena, yah when I said, "keeping joints open and muscles smooth and pliable" I wasn't making reference to the actual act of Tai-Chi Ch'uan, but more to the benefits the body enjoys because one indulges in the practice. Either way I think we both agree it would be beneficial to the body and mind.
Hey Les, what are you drinking, I'll join yah? As long as it's not some gut rot stuff I should be able to keep up. I sure hope you're not one for supplying endless amounts of chum, man I hate that!
Garett, I have a small oak barrel that I will pull the bung in about 4 more months [ hint , It comes from Kentucky ] .
