Looking at the ads that came with yesterday's newspaper, I was shocked at how low prices on TV's have fallen. And it's not like I live with my head in the sand, as I frequently look at ads and dream of having a 45 something inch Hi Def TV.
Why bother with online? I can't see how anyone can beat the prices of some of the larger retailers and I'm guessing, if you do buy online, you will have to pay freight and that will probably bring the price up to or exceed any prices you can find at Best Buy, Wally World, Circuit City, etc. ect. etc.

My biggest problem I have with having a TV couriered is how some of the couriers handle the packages. Some of those guys can be down right bruttttttlllllle!
Now if you were close enough to shoot over to the location the TV was coming from, that's a different story.

I would not buy online,if the tv comes in damaged ,you will have to go through an ordeal to get it replaced.Buy from a store,if you have a problem, you can go back to them, how much are you going to save anyway?

Point well taken Guy's

My reasoning was I see how much Marine Electronics sell online by Jim and others vs Wm and other retailers and thought there might be some substantial savings.

Thanks for the info

Bought a 55" Sony Rear proj LCD and they delivered, set it up and I couldn't have asked for anything more!

I ordered a 72" Hi Def TV from digital1234.com and had a great experience with them. The way I look at it is the TV is going to spend a lot of time on a truck regardless of who you buy it from. Anything can happen to it along the way and you never know who will drop it.

But I can't believe how low B&M places are selling TV's these days. Best Buy was selling a 42" Panny Plasma for $999 yesterday!!!! I almost purchased one just so I could say I got a good deal

There are definitely bad on line places to order from so do your homework before you click that mouse. I've heard some horror stories regarding on line places in NYC.

Funny, I have never found online prices that much better than a local store except for speciality items. I would always buy local, just to have someone or a tangible person, place, or what ever to deal with. Well as much dealing as they can do. I have been told to always take at least a 3 year service agreement out on the LCD and PLasma TV's, maybe shop where they offer the best deal on extended warranties and where you have to take it to to get it services by the warranty. By the way I'm not big on extended warranties, but some items, like new expensive technology items sort of demand it. By the way I had a neighbor who bought a Plasma big screen a couple of years ago it seems and it went bad just after the year warranty and it cost him about a grand to have it fixed.

www.shopper.com
www.pricewatch.com
www.froogle.com
www.ebay.com

With any of the sites listed above, check the seller ratings first.

I purchased one 42" plasma and one 32" LCD in the last 2 years from http://www.plasmaconcepts.com/sections/avs.asp
No problems or packaging issues with these people.

At the time of purchase I saved over $400 on the plasma and $300 on the LCD over the brick store prices.

Do some research on TV's and web sellers here http://avsforum.com/ they are the THT of the TV world.

I am shopping hard now for a replacement and have found that, on exact models, Amazon.com prices are $300-400 less than the best sale prices posted by Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. On some models they even offer free shipping, so no tax - no freight can reduce the price even more. The worry about shipping makes no sense as they are all shipped - regardless of whether it comes to your house or goes to your local retailer.
