Won’t let one of those turkey fryers within 100-ft of me. They are one of the few things on the planet where the word “danger” is an understatement. If you have any question about the dangers of those things, see the info on the Underwriters Laboratory website.
Shag ~ Looks like your turkey was prayin' for mercy in the Before pic. Ha!!
Turned out well - done ~ I see! YUMM!!!!
Had one of those yest., myself.
And yes, the turkey fryers ARE dangerous.......when used by "mentally challenged" people. We "Southenas" can get away with it cuz we deep fry EVERYTHING!!
Well done Bo! and Happy Thanksgiving to y'all too..
We (I) fried up a turkey as well. I used the Cajun Injector brand in "Cajun Butter" flavor with a cajun spice rub on the outside and holy turkey was that good. That was my first fried turkey I have personally fried and not just assisted - not that one can assist a whole lot.
Hey Eyeball, why do you drive a car or own a boat? Talk about living dangerously!

ReelWork, I don’t know what you are talking about; I have no intention of trying to deep fry either my car or any of my boats.
Seriously, those fryers are a little diff from most “dangerous” stuff in that they are extremely unforgiving when things go wrong. You can crash a car and walk away for it. It’s not likely you can have something go wrong with one of those fryers and not have things go up in flames and/or serious personal injury.
It is possible to make those fryers safe but the demand for them has created a market for cheap and DANGEROUS fryers without the features needed to make them safe. Speaking as one with inside knowledge of UL; nothing scars me like those fryers. Nothing. Keep in mind UL makes their money by certifying stuff, and as it says in that link, UL will not certify those fryers.
Eyeball, admittedly they are dangerous IF precautions aren't followed. The UL link you posted is my checklist. No kids or dogs, keep away from house, pre measure the oil, keep away from buildings, etc. This is coming from a guy who wouldn't even allow fry baby in the house until the kids were in their teens because I've seen the kids who are treated at the Shriner Burn Hospitals. However, with the proper precautions they do cook an excellent turkey. I don't think UL will certify firecrackers or guns either but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be used with the proper precautions.

I think fryers are like anything, in the wrong hands they are an accident waiting to happen. Use a little safety minded common sense and it's like anything else.

This year I changed my mind about leftover fried turkey. ALL the other times it has been poor at best, this year it is some of the best leftovers I've had.
And yes, it was done by experienced and safe cookers.
