Random Quote: Did you ever see a Brinks truck following a hearse?
Bosch does make a great unit, LG has several units that are highly rated as does Maytag. For my money anything water related its always Maytag(washers, dishwasher) for cooking and cooling its always GE. LG has come out with some great products but their service is lacking in alot af areas. Kenmore is always rated highly but I hate dealing with Sears. Home Depot is running 10% off all appliances this weekend, a good place to start.
Thanks steelhead
Will give Maytag a look. Pretty confusing though
My KitchenAid was a low to mid tier washer. I was told when I bought it that all the KitchenAid's came with the same tub, price went up with bells and whistles
Bosch! We bought the near the bottom unit a couple of years ago and have loved it since. Ours is in a peninsula that sticks out into the great room so quiet was number one on our list of features. It think that it is rated at 56 db. The water draining into the the sink drain makes more noise than the unit running. The other nice feature is that plastic can be washed in the top or bottom rack and it actually gets dry. If you don't need bells and whistles, the less expensive models are about the same price as other mid-range dishwashers.

Hey Navy Ret. ~ thanks for this thread! I'm in the market as well. My nearly 12 yr. old Tappan is startin' to sound like a cat caught in a motor ~
Just hopin' it lasts for a little while longer......a new dishwasher is not EXACTLY what I'd like to see under my Christmas tree.....
BTW ~ can someone explain to me the "bells and whistle" part?? My theory is - you throw the dishes in the thing, they get washed, MAYBE they get dried and then you unload it. WHAT else goes on inside of a dishwasher that causes it to have bells and whistles...?? Inquirin' minds wanna know ~ Ha!
From what my friend tells me he is a manager for the largest appliance and tv seller in the northeast says LG is the best out right now they get the fewest calls for service after the sale

Strikerthree ~ that doesn't surprise me about the LG's. In fact, I'm also lookin' at the LG front load washer and dryers.......but don't tell Daddy'O!!
Jane,
Bells are everywhere. You can get timers so the DW starts after you are asleep. You can program some to do a half wash - items in top or bottom section. You can vary the temp. You can put in dirty dishes & have a light rinse only. On some models the control panel is hidden. The list goes on & on.
I boiught a Maytag 20 years ago on advice in consumers reports. It was built like a tank - only problem was it didn't clean the dishes and it was noisy. I kept hoping it would break so I could replace it; no such luck. After fifteen years of flwwless operation and prewashing the dishes, I finally tossed it and bought a White-Westinghouse at COSTCO for less tha half the original cost of the Maytag. Very Quiet and efficient and no prewashing. Good choice.
Hey Garett : thought you were referring to Mrs. Garett till I Googled it
I was ..........man can she get noisy sometimes! Crips sometimes I swear she's making the pots and pans not washing them. That's where if I go in and lean on the door she quiets right down. I thought I'd throw you guys off by calling the Misses the Admiral this time around.
I think Admiral is made by GE?

For anyone looking the quitest models are with the stainless tubs. The spray on insylation used is the best but cannot be put on plastic models due to the heat when sprayed. As for db noise ratings there are no industry standards as to how far the reading is taken and at what point of the cycle, so they can be misleading. Again LG does have some great features but service at this point can be an issue. Some other bells are there filteration system, some are 2 level some are 3, there are high temp sanitze washs that will kill up to 99% of bacteria. There are adjustable racks, full lay down tines of racks, removeble racks, stemware holders and cycles. Some models even have what is called a turbidity sensor that is like a laser that reads the level of waste particles in the water and will shorten or lengthen a wash cycle as needed. The list goes on as they have become very techno. advanced. One other thing I just found out in my area the Maytag company has just laid off its entire service dept. going to independant contractors. Dont know if this affects other areas of the contry and how this will affect service but something to consider.
