Default Where to stay in NYC

The admiral wants to go to NYC for an extended weekend. I am looking for recommendations as to where to stay, I'm thinking on or near Central Park or Rockefellar(sp) Center. She would like to shop, go to a play/show/the theater and eat a some nice restaurants. Any help is appreciated.

Use Priceline - select Midtown West first and try around 200 a night for 4 star. If that doesn't work try again just dropping your star level to 3.
If that does not work then go back to the start (do not use the previously rejected bid). Put in both MidTown West and Upper West side. Go 200 again and 4 start again. If no good, drop this to 3 star.
If no good you can go back to the start (do not use the previous rejected offer) and add Midtown East. Do the 200 and 4 start, then the 3 star.
You can then add another Midtown or even the "Uppers", just go back to the start so that you can bump back up to 4 stars as there is a great chance you will be able to get a 4 star for 200.

If no good, wait 72 hours and start again from the beginning.

Here are a few midtown hotels I have visited ..........Intercontinental (not twice), Plaza (great location), Waldorf (over priced standard rooms with tiny bathrooms), Palace (I normally stay here), Regis (they actually still have a butler service), Millenium (great theatre location, nice rooms), Four Seasons (Manhattan - maybe the nicest hotel I have been in), Rihga Royal (very very nice), W (my lip isn't pierced so I didn't fit in), Grand Hyatt (ok), Midtown Marriott (I don't remember anything about that hotel - that says something)........

We stayed a week at the Grand Hyatt and for this country boy, it was very nice. You're about 5-6 blocks south of Central Park, about the same to Times Square, walking distance of a lot of shows and Virgil's Bar-B-Q.

My favorite part of NYC is Union Square and the Flatiron district. The restaurants there are just out of sight (check out Mesa Grill; I love that place). The shopping there is awesome. The people there are more hip and less touristy, if that is possible. I also get real nervous with midtown in general. Hotel? I have stayed at the W. I love it there.

You can take a 10-12 minute cab ride for your time square/broadway fix.

Dont go. I have family in the city. Needless to say the only reason they are there is because thy're all cops. Besides the kinife fights, the garbage, robberies, crowds, and loud noises, its a good place to go.

But seriously, head to the Sheraton Manahttan. Its a few blocks from Times Square. Good restaurants (BUBBA GUMP SHRIMP Restaurant!!!!!!!!) and good shopping....I think. Best part is Rosie O'Gradies is right nextdoor! Good luck with whatever you end up doin.

I don"t know where you get your info from but NYC is one of the safest Big Cities in the US where are your family members cops which PCT all my friends, my sister and a cousin are on the job with the NYPD, yes its crowded but thats because its so popular, yeah its loud but what major city like NYC isnt loud, Garbage NYC is very clean one of the cleanest cities, there are very few robberies for a city of its size and knife fights dont know where you get that from

I stayed at the Crown Plaza @ 48th & broad a couple of summers ago, found good rates online. This is a short walk from most of the shows, plenty of good dining is close by, and is just about in time square. If that's the area you are looking at, I would recomend it.
