I cleaning up an area on my property that has the remnants of my dad's old welding business on it. The shop has pretty well been cleaned out but that leaves the perimeter of the shop. I have a few tons of scrapiron that is in the process of being removed by some guys that will haul it away for a profit. My sister seems to think that I should expect a cut of the profit. I don't think so. They are loading it themselves, hauling it themselves, and not charging me a thingfor the cleanup. If I'd have to do it myself or hire someone to do it, it would never get done. I want to make progress and makemy place look as if someone cares. What do y'all think about the situation?
Plus does anyone have any need for Caterpillar dozer parts like ripper shanks or multi-cable blocks (for either pipelayers or cable operated dozers). I have some and want to see them gone but not for scrap...(my dad's wishes). It'd have to be pick-up only because freight would be a nightmare.

there is little money in scrap.it would not be worth them picking it up and have to pay you for it.what you might could do is ask that they haul a load or two of other trash that you made need to move.if i was you list the dozer on e-bay or a heavy equiment trader.
There were a few used tractor parts places around Conroe (N Houston) years ago. If you can track one of them down, they may know someone who deals in that kind of stuff. In your neck of the woods, there surely are a few old ranches that still use an old cable-operated dozer to clear mesquite. A little asking around might turn up something.

If it's scrap iron no one will show if you ask for a cut. Copper and SS is another thing. I've seen guys show up to remove old units. Of course they concentrate on the copper coils, but when it came to the rest, we really had to get on them. Let them have it.

I'm going to let them have it. That way they'll pick up everything. They got the easy stuff today. Old truck beds, plows, railroad rail, headache racks, a fifth wheel hitch, a very old Kelvinator frig, and old car parts await them. Hope they bring a sack lunch.

I'd say ~ "whatever works for YOU!" Go with your gut and let 'em have it. There's nothin' in any "rule book" that says you HAVE to make a profit outta every little thing you do.
Sometimes it's nice to just let others HAVE somethin' without askin' for NUTHIN' in return.
Wow. I haven't seen a cable operated dozer in forever. You have to be a manly man to run one of those suckers 10 hours a day. Scrap is worth something if you have a good bit of it. If you have a bunch of junk to haul off too I would let them have it to clean the rest. I usually get a couple thousand $ a year but I have to take it to them. It funds the employee christmas barbeque.
