Default Audio Questions

First - a big thank you to THT member Duct Tape. He gave me some excellent ideas and insight into planning my build. Thanks bud.

While the internet is a vast resource, the very vastness of it is also a limitation. I've waded through enough crap in search of some usable info, and still have some questions. So I hope to harness the power of THT.

I have a new 2006 F150 Supercrew with stock 6 CD changer. It does not have the Audiophile system with the subwoofer. It does have Sirius Satellite radio, with 3 or 6 months sevice included (I forget which it is).

I have spec'd the following system as my upgrade:

Front Speakers: JL Audio XR570Cxi two-way component speakers.
Rear Speakers: JL Audio XR570Cxi two way single unit speakers.
Sub Woofer: JL Audio 10W3v3-4
Amplifier: JL Audio 500-5 five channel

Sugary sweet stuff

Sub-box: JL Audio manufactures a custom box that comes with the sub I have listed. The box fits under the rear seat area, but I will lose the holder for the spare tire jack. It looks good, but is pretty large. It will certainly allow the sub to do what it is supposed to. Q-logic also makes one that fits beneath the passenger seat, and I won't lose the spare tire jack holder. But, this unit is much smaller, and I am wondering if the bass will be able to flow properly.

Does anyone have any experience with either of these two boxes in this model of truck????

Head Unit: From what I have learned, I cannot replace my factory HU and retain my Sirius ability. Even with a Sirius enabled HU. I would have to purchase a separate Sirius receiver, but could use my existing antenna.

Just how much better is the signal quality going to be if I upgrade the HU, vs. keeping the stock one?? Keeping the stock one has alot of appeal, but if there is going to be a very noticeable difference in signal quality, then I would be wasting my money on the spkrs/amp; or at least, not getting my money's worth. JL does make a new product called Clean Sweep, that basically takes the stock signal and makes it high end, using DSP technology.

Does anyone have any experience with the JL Clean Sweep?

One more questions:

JL Audio states on their web site that they do not support, nor supply, any on line discount retailers. They state that any JL products bought via the internet will not meet warranty criteria, and they will not honor the warranty.

Has anyone bought JL Audio stuff from on line discounters? If so, was it legit, or did it have the serial numbers removed? Which company did you purchase from? I don't have any qualms about going to a brick & mortar store to buy the stuff, but if I can get legit products over the internet for 40% less, then that seems to be the ticket.

Long post, and lots of questions. I would appreciate any info, or any direction to reliable, usable, resources; and even some good natured slamming, if you must

Big Al
crank it up!

Big Al I can only take a stabe at one of your quesitons....the other stuff is newer and outside my knowledge base.

Woofers are NON-directional. Meaning that if you place smaller ones under your driver and or passenger seat apposed to in the back seat you shouldn't experience a difference.....given that they are the same size, but I take it they are not. Sub-woofers are there more to feel then hear, therefore smaller woofers under your seat "should" give you more of a bass feeling then speakers which are basically not attached to you..............I'd go with the ones under the driver/ passenger seat!.

If you are interested, drop me an e-mail and I'll suggest ways in which you can get a WHOLE LOT MORE BANG for you buck......by the sounds of it you haven't installed anything yet?
