Default lowrance 112 issue?

My Lowrance 112c to me seems to be operating very slow. You push to zoom in or zoom out or set a track and it takes 10-20 seconds to update and the bottom right corner shows the card blinking. Is that normal. My buddy has a lowrance111xhd and he doesn't see the chip blink nor does it take that long to update. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hello tterien,

I would check to make sure you have latest software (which you can check at Lowrance's website http://www.lowrance.com). Remember to back up your waypoints and other data before you update if it is necessary.

Also consider that your friend's machine may be operating a little faster because his is operating off of the hard drive's charts as apposed to your machine which has to operate off of the SD card in the slot. As a rule hard drives read a little faster than the SD card, so perhaps that it is why it seems like yours is operating a bit slower than his. Let me know if you have any questions about this. Thanks, and have a great day,

One of the slots may be faster reading than the other. Try installing the card in the other slot.

My 111HD reads and updates WAY, WAY faster reading the nautic path charts built into the hard drive than when I read from my Fish 'n Chip in the card slot. This is probably the difference you are seeing.

Try removing the chip and check the speed with just the built in background map. Should tell you if it's the unit or the chip.
