Chester River

We(wife and 3 kids) are looking to take a weeks vacation in July in the Chestertown area. Thinking of staying at the Comfort Inn in Chestertown, and keeping our 17' runabout on the trailer at the Chestertown Marina. Looking to enjoy the river and surrounding waters exploring, tubing and fishing. Maybe even tow the boat over to Rock Hall for the day? Chestertown seemed like a good home base? Any info. on the area and waters would be appreciated!

Chestertown is a nice old town. My wife and I enjoy going there. There are a lot of sites to check out on the net to give you information about the town. Here is one:

While we enjoy Chestertown and its history, you may want to also take a day and go to Annapolis, St. Michaels and other spots on the bay. In a 17'er you may wish to take those trips by car and/or trailer your boat to local ramps to see by water. However, a run down to the Kent Island Narrows and Rock Hall if the weather is nice may make for a fun trip. Otherwise the Chester River is a beatiful river and you will have more than enough fun just in the river.

We (the wife and I) stayed at the Comfort Inn several times. Nice place, and Chestertown in general is a treat: historic buildings (George Washington stayed in one), and a quiet, friendly atmosphere abounds.

The river is very nice as well. We boated up from Kent Narrows in our old 19 footer--a fun trip--and recommend it. There's a bunch of neat places to go off the Chester before you get to the Bay as well, like Cacaway Island and the Corsica River, with beautiful scenery all the way!

Ck out Rolphs Wharf about four miles down river from Chestertown.They have a bed & breakfast inn and marina.I guess the distance to Rock Hall or the Kent Narrows is about twenty five miles from Chestertown.I run fromChestertown to the Narrows or Rock Hall in about one hour.There are many creeks and wild life areas to explore along the Chester River.Also a trip up the Corcia River to Centerville is a nice ride.

Thanks for the info. Having three children (8,10,13) would not want to risk ruining someones quiet bed & breakfast vacation. Planning to stay at the Comfort Inn in Chestertown, let them burn off energy in the pool at night! Looking forward to checking out the areas you metioned. Wondering how the fishing has been down in this area as of late? This will be our first trip to the Bay area, trying to gather as much local info as I can!

Took a freind and his wife to Chestertown over the 4th of July weekend. Without a doubt the Chester River is beautiful. It snakes back and forth with very few houses and little boat traffic even on this holiday weekend. Stayed at the Chestertown Marina. Marina had everything you would want. Restaurant beside the marina was still being rebuilt from hurricane Isabel. There is no night life in Chestertown. You don't even see cars or people on the streets after 8:30 PM. Except for looking at the 17th century houses there is nothing to do. Again, I can't say enough how beautiful the river was getting there. Next time think I'll just hang on the hook a mile or so west of Chestertown and enjoy the peace, quiet, and beauty of the river and save the expense of the marina fee. First time I have used my new GPS for navigation. It was so easy to folllow the channel by watching the GPS. If you got out of the channel the depth would sometime drop to only 3-4 feet and some of the bouys are pretty far apart.
