Default Tidalfish ..... is it slowly dying?

Seems that all of the good people have left and there is very little sharing of information on Tidalfish any longer. Also seems that many of the experienced anglers and boaters who use to share their knowledge have departed and are now being replaced by younger fellows with little experience. Also, the moderator is heavy-handed with the censorship pen. Anything that gets a little controversial, the moderator either "bans" the individual or closes the thread. Anyone else get this feeling too? Where are all of the good people who were once of TF headed to? THT? Somewhere else.

If you ask me, TF is stronger than ever. The mod. has opened up new forums to try and fill the void that some say has been left by the decline of THT.

That being said, I don't spend nearly as much time there as I used to. But my interests have changed over the years. I've gone from primarily a fishing interest to more of a boat rebuilding interest. That's where www.classicmako.com comes in.

Brian -

Yeah, that's what Brandon says "people are leaving THT and coming to TF". I don't see it. I actually feel as if TF is quickly going downhill. Whenever I went over there, I felt as if I quickly returned to 8th grade (in both the pettiness and the strength of information traded). But, hey, that's just me.

Maybe it depends on both sites as to which forums you're reading. From my reading habits there is way more arrogance and immaturity on this site but like I said it depends on the forums you're reading. Kinda like fish, different tastes draw different individuals.

I don't post on TF as much as I used to either but I haven't really noticed (or don't pay attention to) the immiturity. I do know some guys from the Norfolk Anglers Club that used to post a lot that don't anymore. I rarely go to any forum other than the Virginia Board though. It certainly has more information than the Chesapeake board here.

I haven't been on TF is about 2 years. No need for me anymore since I am not fishing. I always associated TF and thebassbarn as fishing sites whereas THT more of a boating site (although I think pretty much everyone on here has a fishing boat and fishes!).

As a full-time lurker on both boards it seems like the T-F "off-season" rec versus comm banter was more heated and personal than in years past - maybe due to the comm crab restrictions. It also seemed like the attacks did not subside after winter and then the moderator had a pretty short fuse for what was deemed inappropriate. Both boards usually have useful information - sometimes you have to wade through more bs than expected to find what you want or need.

By the way Chris - that little 115 Yamaha has run like a top this year - puts out a pre-mix 2 stroke cloud of smoke and then runs great. Finally got the 17 Mako put back together this spring - I didn't redo/raise the transom, used a manual jackplate so the 25" engine would work on the 20" transom and everything has worked great (except I might need to figure to raise it a little bit more - looks like too much spray and stuck on 40mph at wot.) thanks again - how is the Duffy project going??

Glad to hear it Mike (ie the motor is running well). Also glad to hear that your Mako project is finally done.

My Duffy is a continuous project. All of the structure is complete (cabin, decks, washboards) and the engine, shaft, rudder exhaust and hydraulic steering is all installed and working. Just have lots of fairing and painting to do. Plus have lots of cabinetry work to do inside. But it's coming along nicely.

I use this board and TF - but I only read the fishing reports on TF - here I read more about the boating sections. Classic Mako is great to as well as the boston whaler site for refurbs.

Running a forum isn't easy. Being critical is.

I don't visit TF but hope it's doing well. I doubt the THT crowd flocked there.

I don't think TF is slowly dying at all. One merely has to get to know a few people on there and network. Now, is all the fishing intel on there for all the world to see as it perhaps was at one time? No, not like it used to be because some areas got hammered too much as a result. If a person wants to learn more about fishing in general, learn new techniques, meet new people and have fun, well I think TF is going to be around for that for some years to come.

Most of the originals - people who were good fishermen - on TF got smart enough not to post anymore. That happens after you realize you have said too much and you start finding people at all of your spots and the fish gone. You tell one person something on that board and they tell everyone else. Seen it happen all too often. Most of the posters that you have left now are the people who originally didnt know anything and now think they know everything.

I'd have to say TF is healthy and strong, a bit more diversified but healthy all the same.
