For what it's worth, I used to fish a lot with my family as a kid. I hadn't put a line in the water in 17 years. I wanted to get my son out on the water and introduce him to a lot of the things I enjoyed when I was young to include boating in general and fishing. I kinda lurked for a while picking up a few things here and there and finally just asked for advice. Not only was I given advice but phone numbers and invites. Are there the typical things that go on in society where some individuals personality's make them more of the center of attention and others that inflate images and stories, sure. Some of these same people are also some very generous and good hearted people which others may interpret in the wrong way. It's all in how you look at it and I don't view this as them trying to be the next Tred Barta. Overall it's a good site due to the people and the generosity. There are some very good fishermen on there and it is an excellent resource. Hopefully none of you whiners will go there and learn something more about fishing which will leave more fish in the pond for me and my boy.

What happens with all forums is the "current" crowd seeks to get better acquainted and all learn at one pace. A new group enters without the experience with either fishing or the personalities of the group and it's as volatile as high school cliques. You see it here and on TF. Any forum turns into a social network and has typical social issues. I just post when I have a question or if I have something to add. (although I'm not sure my post here is helpful...)

Tf is a joke there is no moderation unless someone speaks against the clicks or is a commercial. I got tired of the constant bs and stopped going to the site and have not looked back. For fishing site I stick to vbsf.net and for boating sites I come here and classicmako

Asked for advice on stripers. Got it. Caught fish.
Have had several people offer to take me out on that board to help show me more techniques to catch fish.
But, yeah....Tidalfish sucks.

I really only read the Northern Neck and VA boards there. If you have other issues on the MD board....well I wouldn't know about those. The VA group has been more than good to me, I've gotten everything short of GPS coordinates when it comes to helping me catch fish and get on the water.

Don't mind the whining Jason. As with any social group, online or not, you have clicks and those that don't like the atmosphere or don't completely fit in. If you enjoy reading the site as I do and don't take anything to serious, you will continue to have fun as it is mostly entertainment with good info mixed in. Then once you too become the ultimate bay fisherman (ie. a "great one"), you can then stop posting over there and complain about the site here

Don't get me wrong, sometimes I too believe TF is oddly moderated (ie. When Chris got banned -- I personally didn't see where he crossed any lines and just had an point he was trying to make) and personally get frustrated by some of the extreme "conservationalist" that I believe are a detriment to rights of the sport fishing community without any adequate science to back their desires up. However, it is what it is and the key is to just have fun with it. Just like THT

I think what a lot of you guys are missing is that a lot of the "good" fisherman on TF got sick of posting their reports and locations and having them taken over by others. What has happened is that Brandon has allowed a bunch of clubs to be created and people in those clubs are posting on those forums now instead of the general area where they know that only the guys in their club will read the reports.

That said, I am a member of one of those clubs and still post reports on the main page. There are tons of really good people on that site who will really go out of their way to help each other and the community out. They organize several charity and clean up events as well. Of course we BS with each other, we're fisherman. What do you expect.

I think both sites are very helpful for their specific purposes and I definitely think TF is the best site around for local knowledge on the middle to upper CB.

chrisrack - 12/24/2008 7:27 PMI will agree with that 100% The TF site is full for High-school-like clicks. And tons of ass-kissing. But that's just my perception.
That I'll agree with.

I will not agree with that. THT is much more immature(and entertaining)

chrisrack and the information shared is pretty elementary.
Well, Chesapeake bay fishing is not really that complicated unless you are a total newbie so what are people really going to say?

I doubt if that site is going anywhere. I like reading the reports and tips eventhough I really don't learn anything new, they are still fun to read..But I think the anti-waterman BS is out of control on there, The people that are against watermen are always the ones that start the threads, its never the people that don't discriminate against them, the anti-watermen are also the same ones that become rude and resort to personal attacks, yet Brandon bans the people that aren't against them. How can anyone start a thread that bashes other people and not expect there to be people that don't agree? the funny thing is, it wouldn't matter how many he bans, there will always be people that don't agree with that. I know for a fact that a lot of the people he bans and claims are really Watermen are really Recs that just don't agree with the hate mongering

Yes ZAM .... trying to defend the "commercial-watermen" and this way of life is a good way to get banned.

Another good way to to discuss Hispanics/Mexicans. Go start a thread about needing a landscaper or painter and the conversation will soon turn to Hispanics/Mexicans. Within 3 or 4 replies, anyone even remotely hinting about illegals will get you banned (or barned close to it). I'm pretty sure than Brandon's GF is of colored-origin (non-African) and ANY talk of Hispanics is taboo.

His girl friend is indeed Hispanic but I don't know why it should bother him. She comes from wealthy people who own a Jewelry Store in Beverly Hills CA.

REDS -

Agreed. She is pretty and she appears to carry herself with an "aire" of indignation like many of the blue-bloods, but I can assure you, he is REALLY sensitive about any discussions revolving around Hispanics.
