Hi Schmaltz~Herring

Thank you for contacting us regarding XL Catlin. I saw the thread as well and just added this posting to clarify the rumors.

XL Catlin is not removing itself from the marine insurance business. They have however decided to minimize some their direct large yacht insurance exposure in the United States written through direct retail agencies.

XL Catlin is and will remain one of the largest ocean marine insurers in the world and will continue to insure yachts in the US and Canada through their select North American managing general agents (MGA's)/managing general underwriters to better manage these risks for them. Charter Lakes is one of these MGA's.

As their largest MGA in the United States, Charter Lakes will continue to write large yacht insurance for XL Catlin in addition to all of our exclusive XL Catlin Specialty Insurance Programs. This includes our Recreational Boaters Advantage Angler Program, our Voyager Yacht Program, our Guided Sport Fishing Programs (fishing guides and 6 passenger charter boats), our Coast Guard Inspected Large Passenger Vessel Program, and our Misc. Commercial Programs.

If you have an XL Catlin policy through Charter Lakes, there are no changes.

Please feel free to contact our office if you have any additional questions.

Thank you!
