Default Atlantic Ledge Report

Well I did not chase the Spade Fish but did get to the AL on Sunday. We had a great time with 9 Kings,1 Mahi, and 6 of the craziest sky rocketing barracuda I have ever seen. The cudas are hungry and brave this time of year. The East breeze knocked down the SE swell for a 34 MPH ride home. The Island Time was humming.

Most of them were in the 6 to 10 lb. range with a couple maybe in the teens. We were fun fishing so I did not even look for the big Pogys, I just pulled Jigger Ballyhoo and Cigar Minnows which probably kept the big boys away.

That sounds like you had a blast. 34 MPH must havbe been a great ride in. Where is the AL? About 25-30 miles off?

Scott, it is 29 statute miles due South of the OIB sea buoy. It is a great area with lots of bait and app 8 ft. of relief in some areas holding lots of bottom fish.

Thanks gman. Sounds like a good spot. Is this marked on charts like C-Map? Looking at getting one soon.

Scott, you wanted to hear more about the cudas, well here it is. We had a medium size cuda on when a monster app 5 to 6 ft. raced out from under the boat and disappeared. After a few seconds I heard a ruckus behind me and the monster was out of the water chewing on the outrigger line that had been reeled up to get the other fish in. When he felt the hook he took off leaping over the motor and greyhounding 3 or 4 times out of the water looking just like a Sailfish. We put the drag on winch and brought him to the boat and released him with a bruised ego. All of the cudas we caught that day became airborne just lke Mahi Mahi. It was a cool thing to see.
