I know that everyone has heard Wind out of the east fish bite the least. Should have lived by that on Sunday. Hblac and myself made it out to the 100-400 dodging a few rain showers Sunday morning and had lines in the water before 8:00.
I think Hal would agree that it was amazing how many Barracudas there were. It seems that where ever we put lines out the Cudas where there. Fishing was slow except for the Cuda bite. We finaly pulled them in and headed to the HorseShoe and salvaged the day with a few kings.
We would have won the Cuda tournament if there was one. Some of them were huge and pretty good jumpers. We did save some good bottoms #'s while trolling and will have to give them a try soon.
Thanks to Hal The Throttle Man for comming along for the trip. We made great time heading out and back in from the 100-400.
Learn a little something new about the boat each time I take it out.................Tight lines Mark

We had that cuda invasion set in about 1 month ago in GA waters....the dog days of summer are here. The only people that enjoy that bite are the charter guys......seems the customers just love to fight the fish and see the nasty teeth before they are released.
Fish,
Kings were small and caught them on hard baits.Since we went to the 100-400 we didnt bring any live bait. There were only two other boats at the Horseshoe one was a charter looked like a old Make WA, the other was a Trophy. Those were the only boats we saw at shoe. we only saw two boats at the 100-400 and the were both commercial boats. On the way back in we went by the Rartain and if you need bait there was acres of bait everywhere Silversides and Cigars. We marked acres bait from the surface to the bottom all around the Ruritain ......Mark

If you head a 180 out of Southport and cruise for aproximatly 50-52 miles depending how you straight you steer you will be there. The 100-400 is about 10 miles below the Blackjack N33 08.9700 W077 43.310......Mark
I leave out of Murrells inlet. Was planning to go out about 60-65 miles tomorrow. But it sounds like a trip to the stream tomorrow will not be worth the gas??

Thanks also for the report.
IMHO the stream it isn't worth a run in N Ga waters....the sea temp is too friggin hot, spread out fish, no rips....unless you want billfish, they seem to be enjoying the hot water. Find some weedlines well before the stream and you may encounter some hoos and phins.....again, this is what is happening down south....it may different the farther north you go.
Yup, nothing but cudas and two juvenile kings. About three fourths of our ballyhoo were bitten off behind the hook and I believe mark lost at least two Islanders.
I was impressed by the boat though. It does seem that they do run better the faster you go. Seems like 3,500 rpm (32-33 mph) is about as slow as you want to go. Below that the ride was not as good as when you kick her up to 3,600 to 3,900 rpm and let her dance across the wavetops. Would've liked to have really opened it up but with gas prices what they are, well....we didn't.
Going to try it tomorrow with my son on our boat. Will let you know how we do.
Mark, thanks again for the invitation! Had a great time.
We ran out of Little River to the Jungle. Caught about a 15 lb kigfish. Moved farther North and offshore and found flying fish and Cudas. Then stoped at Little River Offshore trying to look for schoolie kings and spanish. Thing got exciting when the bait came up. The only problem was the dolphin (porpouses) were the ones that balled them up. We did catch and release 2 real dolphin that were the smallest I have ever seen. We caught them on planers and small clark spoons. Maybe a pound a piece. We did find a keeper spanish there too. All in all not too bad. The seas were nice and at least it didn't feel as hot as it has been.
Agree with you on the cudas. They seem to be thick everywhere. We left from Shalotte Inlet Saturday & went to the Jungle. Slow fishing & hot weather & 1 18 lb king. Went to Gen Sherman & caught spadefish, & the cudas were everywhere. Saw 1 skip throught the water like you skip a rock. Ran into several large schools of spanish 10 miles offshore breaking the surface. We stopped & cast to them some & caught 1. Sunday went back to the sherman , then back to the Jungle after a dive boat ran us off from the sherman. Lot of trolling & no bite there till a storm started looking bad off in the distance. Thats when we caught a 10 lb dolfin, & another 18 lb king within about 15 min of each other. Decided we better get back in before the storm got us.
bestins... We dodged a few storms all day. In hind site should have headed north of Wilmington to fish there were no disticnt temp breaks out to 52miles. Water temp was very warm @ 86.5
Yellow Fin... Where did they fish?..............Mark
