Offshore Charleston 6/16 I have fished around Charleston before but have never made a trip to the gulf stream so I was looking forward to trying this Friday.
Left Shem Creek with my friend Kevin and his Dad Mo at about 5:30 or so and did not return until late in the afternoon. By the time we got the fish cleaned and washed the boat it was pusing 9 PM thank to some guy that took over an hour to wash his truck.
Started in 120 feet and never moved more than five miles from the place the first bait hit the water. As I was putting out the very first bait, it got hit. Handed the rod to Mo as it was his first blue water trip. He battled a nice dolphin for about five minutes before it spit the hook in mid air.
Started setting the lines out again, this time managed to get two out before one of them got hit and we landed an upper teens king.
It was a few hours before I was able to get a six line spread out and after a while, I just worked a four line spread. Now I fully understand the "one armed wall paper hanger" analogy.
Ended the day with one barracuda, five kings (biggest 21lbs), 1 wahoo (just over 30lbs) and 10 dolphin (biggest 25lbs).
