Random Quote: If you can't run with the big dogs stay on the porch
I went to lunch at my grandparent's house like I do every Wednesday. By 11:30AM, Sanford had received 6.5 inches of rain. Their basement was flooded and they had no electricity. Granddaddy and I fired up the generator and hooked up the sump pump. Around 12:30PM, the power was back on and all was well.
As I am getting ready to leave their house, my aunt calls. Her den has rising water. She has a brand new pump, but no way to hook it up. I run over there and she has a mess and no hose for the pump. I have her start sucking up water with the shop vac while I run to my house to get a hose.
As I am getting my hose, I notice my crawl space is flooded, but no water touching the floor. I get a smaller hose and start a siphon and head back to my aunt's place. I hooked the hose up and start the pump. The neighbors and I start moving furniture to dry ground and my aunt calls a carpet cleaner. I hope they can salvage the carpet.
Then, I run to Lowe's to get a new hose for my pump which I will hook up when I get home so I can pump my water out.
I thought about building an Ark! but then I do not need anymore boat projects.
I came home to a surprise today.....I have an old 25' Pacemaker Alglas flybridge hull (needs total rebuild) on blocks in the yard....well it used to be on blocks until they were sunken in when my tarp blew off, the boat filled with water got real heavy and sunk on dry land!
We got some big rains todays fellas. Seriously though, this should be a wake up call for this hurricane season...get ready!
Glad it all turned out well for everyone Steve and hope there was not too much damage.
Are we meeting tonight?

Hey Hotspot,
When you get finished you can come over and help me, no house issues, just two board labs digging in the red clay under our deck (read built a little swimming hole) and now they are covered and running around the yard like this is a game....
Good to hear everything on your end is going to be ok, this was something else...look out for the coming hurricane season.
2 black dogs, going home to wash the dogs...

Gotta love irony...had 2 low water alarms at work in 10 minutes....Wife just called shed is almost taking on water. Would a 150 ETEC push that ok. Shed is 10X20.

We also had a fire alarm go off at work today. Hard rain beating our duct mounted smoke detectors shook loose some dust and it was mistook for smoke. Luckily I was close to the alarm panel to see what it was and deactivate it.
Everyone was looking around like...."What...you want ME to evacuate the building in all this rain?" I kept telling them they had to go outside as fast as possible.
Let's just say I gave the "all clear" faster than usual. I also kept calling today a "fish drowner"
Feel bad for Raleigh, they are all over the news.....kid died in a drainage pipe, boat rescues...homes and cars flooded.....right up the road from us here in Sanford.
Sorry to hear you're hurtin there Spot. Just as long as you can keep lifting 12 oz. beverages doing many sets with mulitple repetitions you're OK!
Hope you feel better soon, and def. by the weekend for the raft-up.

You don't see it on the news as much but most damage and most injuries from tropical storms and hurricanes seems to happen inland from flooding. I guess its not as news worthy as seeing a guy telling you how hard it is to stand in the wind and rain. All you hear on the tv is "why do people chose to live where a storm will hit them" (ie beach). Well you're not really safe anywhere. I mean 75 % of the country lives within a few hundred miles of an ocean what are we all supposed to move to kansas. Oh yea thats where twister was filmed, darn.
I don't remember that much water in the recent hurricanes. We had all kinds of problems in my area. Road closings, a few trees down, a sinkhole..................geez. I bet we put a major dent in the rainfall deficit.
Heard on the news we now are above average rainfall by a few tenths!!! Driveway washed out....pond overflowed.......sink hole.......ahhh the joys of country living and a steep gravel drive!!!!
