I will be in wilmington on friday and saturday. Where are the offshore spots to go? WOuld like to do some fishing if the weather holds up. How far out is the bite??
FYI- I do most of my fishing out of Murrells inlet SC so any help is appreciated.
Re: Fishing out of WIlmington ,NC -Wrightsville Beach
king fishing would be fun, maybe some bottom fishing also . Will have the girlfriend so I don't know if a stream trip is doable. Depends on the weather I guess. How far out is the stream from the inlet? any good spots inside 25 miles?
Re: Fishing out of WIlmington ,NC -Wrightsville Beach
Kings have been widely reported within 10-15 miles. I haven't been yet since we have been doing the stream. The 23 area has been reportedly good as well as the Dredge Wreck (13 nm), WR4 (24 nm), SchoolHouse (18 nm). Check with one of the local shops such as Tex's Tackle or Bug Em Bait. They will give you the latest reports and point you in the right direction.
Re: Fishing out of WIlmington ,NC -Wrightsville Beach
I prefer live cigar minnows which can be jigged up with sabikis at most good hard bottom and AR areas. Threadfin herring and spanish sardines will also be caught in some cases. Always take some frozen cigars as backup. Small ballyhoo work for many as well. Use at least 1, and preferably 2 downriggers. We get well over 60-70% of our strikes on them. I like to split the water column into 3rds so if I am in 60ft I will run one at 20ft and the other at 40ft. You can always adjust if the fish seem to be favoring a particular depth.

Re: Fishing out of WIlmington ,NC -Wrightsville Beach
Caught a small king, barely 24" and a good size Spanish at the Liberty Ship off WB yesterday evening after work on a Clark Spoon. Probably could have done better with some effort but I had my Buddy and his 2 (13 and 9) Kids with us so I was more focused on getting them something they could catch before it got too dark. Usual Sea Bass and Scup on the bottom. Caught a Nice King last week about 23 miles off b/t WR4 and ILM3.
I'll probably stay close Friday depending on the forecast. Be on 69 on Reelaxin AKA firemanjoe
