there is a decent ramp at just behind the park, coming from the north coming into Georgetown, take a left at the gas station just as you come off the bridge, drive to the end of the rd and hang a left & you will run into it. It is basically in the inlet there, great fishing to be had very close by
if you are coming in 521 from toward manning just stay on 521 to hwy 17 north. if you come to the big arse bridge that crosses the bay/ICW you have gone too far, basicly the last rd to the right before you get there.
Auto has you covered on the ramp....from there, it's about 12 NM to the jetties. If you need a place to stay, I strongly recommend this B & B: http://www.harborhousebb.com/
Great shrimp & grits--the freshest--they own a seafood company next door. If it is not booked, stay in the Patriot room.
Also, be sure to eat at the River Room on Front Street. They have a herb-crusted grouper that is fantastic. The Rice Paddy is also good, but make sure you have a reservation.....
if you are in the mood for some cruising, the ride down the ICW to Charleston is only a couple of hours at a moderate cruise, and is perhaps one of the most beautiful cruise routes I have ever found. I typically make that trip several times each year.
The South Island Ferry landing is also available, I have put in there many times , its on the Intracoastal waterway! Just ask anyone around Georgetown for directions and they should be glad to tell you. It sure takes off a bunch of running time to the Ocean, as the Ballpark Landing is a long way down a shallow Bay if you are not familiar with that area!
If you go to the Ferry Landing on Saturday,,get there early!! If you have never run Winyah Bay it might be a good idea to take someone with you that knows the area, the Bay is very shallow and you must follow the channel out to the jetties!
Also the south rock jetty is pretty long, it goes out quite a ways into the Ocean! These rocks are low and with a good tide they might be covered up except for the mounds, so be careful! Many a person has lost their lives out around the Georgetown jetties,,it is probably the most dangerous place on the SC coast!! Use caution and follow the bouys!!
