Will be fishing the Swansbororo Open and Big Rock in the coming weeks, and have not been offered a plane ride yet, so if I have to drive, just wondering what's the best way to get to Morehead City? Will be leaving from Norwood down on Lake Tillery. In the past when I've had to drive, I have gone through Jacksonville. Has to be a better way!!! Was wondering is it quicker to go down 70 through Kinston? Is the new Bypass around Jacksonville open, and would it make a big difference? Any help would be appreciated?
Thanks,
Jeff
From Raleigh I'll take 40 East to the Kenansville/Magnolia exit (hwy.24). That will take you through Beulaville, Richlands, then Jacksonville. The bypass is open so it cuts about 15 minutes out of the drive. From Raleigh its about 2 hours and 40 minutes.
I went last weekend from Raleigh and the bypass is open around Jacksonville - follow the 24 east sign toward Wilmington when you get into J-Ville otherwise you'll end up going the old way. Also if you take 40 to 24 make sure you do not get off on the 1st exit for 24 (Warsaw - smithfields BBQ and Rest Area) this is the business 24 and will take you through towns and stoploghts. Stay on 40 for another 7 miles or so and take the 2nd 24 exit.
There was a highway project approved that is supposed to make highway 70 from Raleigh to Morehead 4 lanes with no lights.

Anybody got any info on it?
I know they are currently working on the Clayton by-pass. I don't know if the rest is in design or if it is even funded. I expect there is a DOT website somewhere that has the info.
Nah, next best thing, got a friend with a Hatteras 60!
Got another friend with a Kencraft 235 that hasn't invited me fishing yet?
Jeff, you know you have a standing invitation! Just let me know when you're headed down to Holden Beach or OIB. Hopefully, we can get some decent weather for a change.
