Default INFO PLEASE!!! What would you suggest???

I am a beginner when it comes to fishing. I am 13 years old and I have only bine fishing a year. I go fishing in lakes for Bass, that is about all I am familiar with. I am looking at two different combos (SHIMANO Sahara/Bionic blade XPS Combo) and (SHIMANO Spirex/Bionic Blade XPS Combo) I was told Shimano was the best, I would love to hear your opinion . If I don't get a Shimano I have been looking at a (PFlueger President/Extreme XPS Combo), (MITCHELL Gold/Bionic Blade XPS Combo). I'm only getting a Spinning Reel. I would like to stay in a budget of $100-$130. I respect your guys opinions and I would like to know what is best.

SB21,
SHIMANO Sahara/Bionic blade XPS Combo would be an excellent choice. As far as your 2nd and 3rd choice, ensure that if you go with the Spirex that you go with the Spirex FE and not the Spirex RE as the FE has an aluminum frame and the RE is graphite. Good choice on Shimano brand. The "fluidrive" on these reels makes them feel much smoother (in my opinion) than reels in the "$100.00 plus" range. Pflueger President and Mitchell also very nice choice. You would do well to invest in any of your listed choices of rod/reel combos.

Fish!!!... Boat!!!... Live!!!!!

I like the Sahara's you might also want to check at Dick's sporting goods I just pickup up a Quantum Catalyst spinning reel there on closeout that was very nice. I thought it had a little bit smoother feel than my Sahara's. When I was your age I bought my first reel. It was a Mitchell 300. Unfortunatly I can't recommend the new ones. But I still have the one I bought 33 years ago!! Good Luck. Let us know what you decide.

First of all WELCOME to the board. Secondly you might get better answers to post your question in the reel talk section. Good luck to you!

You may also want to add Shimano Sonora's to that list, I have the 4000 and my Dad has the 1500. For bass you probably want one of the mid size Shimanos that can handle 6-10lb line (I use 12lb, but I am chasing cats, not bass). Front drag types are a little better than rear drags, and the ones with the trigger (quickdraw?) are kind of a neat feature, but not really necessary.

I also have a light action 7' bionic blade rod with a little Shimano TX reel from BPS that is holding up well and makes a fun light tackle set up. For feeling what is going on with your lure or bait they are nice.

You probably want to stick with a light or medium light action rod in the 6'-7' range. Shimano also makes some nice rods at pretty good prices, but it can be hard to beat the BPS combo pricing.

If you traded over to live/cut bait, a mid range Ugly Stick would take a lot more abuse.
