Default murrells inlet fishing help

I will be fishing out of murrells inlet from july to sep. What species should I target. I have a 23 center console. Can I catch tuna and mahi using murrells inlet as my home port. Where and how far out.

Sure. In July, the dolphin come in to 20-30 miles, not in great numbers, but possible. Get a Maps Unique chart of the area, a lot of nice bottom spots are around and that's also a good place to troll a bit for dolphin and kings in between bottom drops.

I'll be trying to explore areas outside Murrells myself. We have a good friend with a beach house who lets us have it for cheeeep. Murrells is a great inlet due to the jetties. I don't have much info for you other that you can also go to charlestonfishing.com as there are lots of locals that will answer questions too. I enjoy reading user "tideline_two" posts in the Georgetown / Grand Strand forums as he seems to give timely report on what's going on in the low country.

Good luck!

Bring up charts and look around, there are a couple reefs within 5 miles and, depending on how far you go offshore, you can hit a few really good spots. Several state records have come from the "Georgetown Hole" if I remember right.

Georgetown Hole is an excellent spot as Beezer says and Murrells Inlet is a great place to base from during the summer. Soak up local knowledge when you can but remember, it won't come easy and some old salts in the area have been known to send the unsuspecting angler snipe hunting. If you don't mind trailering, you're in a good area for lots of fishing. 4KI is a pretty good reef also. It's south and easily reached from Charleston harbour or Folly River. Here are the reefs of SC.

Couple of 3D images of the hole.

What range do you have now? How big is your tank? What is you GPH consumption now?
Most people establish fuel rules like 1/4 there, 1/4 back, 1/4 trolling, and 1/4 reserve. I think some use 1/3 rule not sure.

I for one will be buying a fuel flow meter to establish range, GPH, economy, etc. A wise investment for just over a hundred bucks.

What are others with similar boats doing? What is their range?

I just checked the MS website and here's what it said about your model:
http://www.mskiff.com/patriot.html

Performance with maximum horsepower is outstanding. Top speeds consistently in the 45 MPH range have been recorded with 3-5 persons on board, and good cruising speeds of 20-30 MPH are common with RPM's as low as 3500. Further testing with mid-range 130-150 HP engines showed the hull to be very fuel-efficient. Top speeds with 130-150 four-strokes ranged between 35 MPH to 43 MPH. At 24 MPH, the boat had a cruising range of over 260 miles.

Hey...is this similar to your boat?

if so...cool ride man!

thats me, I have done 50 miles offshore trolled all day 50 miles back and still have a little more than a 1/4 tank left. I hold 80 gallons. The boat is phenominal on gas.I boated over a 150 blufefin last year in that boat. schoolies 30 to 150#s. A few season ago I boated a 300#bluefin in my 21 whaler. I will be holding onto this maritime for a long time.

Went out of murrells Inlet saturday. I ran out to the Winyah Scarp area and put 10 dolphin in the boat, lost another 3 due to gaffing (one was my fault) and about 18 bottom fish none less than about 4 pounds and up to 10 pounds in the boat.(grouper, snapper, trigger) You will do fine out of that port.
