Hello,

Looking for a place to Vacation along North Carolina coast that is central to Atlanta and Washington DC. Would like a beach that is family oriented and laid back. Wanted to go to Nags head/Corolla but that is a hike from Atlanta when traveling with young kids. Can someone suggest a laid back beach that is family atmosphere that you can drive on the beach and allows pets. Also some realty companies the do rentals.

Nothing here is "central" to Atlanta or DC. HOWEVER, Most of the beaches from the SC coast to Topsail are relatively easy to get to from I-95. Sunset Beach, Holden, Ocean Isle, Oak Island, Kure, Carolina, Topsail and Surf City. It is easy to find family oriented among those, driving on the beach is another matter. I think you still can around Carolina Beach.

You can drive on N Topsail at the New River Inlet.....but the rest of Topsail beach is closed during the Summer to motor vehicles. As I understand driving on Carolina is still allowed with a permit.
