we ran one on Murray last weekend, it was pretty decent, except for they had the final stop be at the only "Dry" marina of the entire event. one guy even brought out a 31 or so fountain w/ twin 275 verado's, pretty impressive to see a dressed out offshore rig cruise past some of the lound muscle boats w/ ease.
you know of anything going on this weekend on Hartwell? I'm headed that way after work today, going to be on the water on saturday & sunday, still debating on putting in Hartwell or Keowee at this point.

The only thing I know of this weekend is a open house at WCSC. Some of us from the Power Squadron will be there doing VSC's.
On our Poker Run there are 8 pick up points. You have to go to 4 of them. We set it up so the go-fast can run all day and cover over 120 miles or a houseboat can do it in less than 25 miles.
The card opening is at Hartwell Marina this year. They have cleared off a bunch of docks for us to use. Will have a band ect at the card opening.
Does Portman Marina not have an operating ships store or anyone typically at least working the fuel docks? I was on hartwell all day saturday, and found myself in dire need of some Ice, none to be found. As nice as of a facility as Portman is, I would have though that the basics like ice & beer would be covered.
It is a shame what they do there!
We always said that would be a great place to put a Marina.
Big Water has beer and ice and Jane is always happy to sell you something.
We are at Hartwell Marina this year because Portman did not want the hassle of having all those boats there!
They get $8.00 to launch and sell a ton of gas to the Poker Run guys.
saturday they didn't have so much as a dock guy, I would have thought that it was legally required to have one when pumping gas over the water in case of spills, ect. There is no telling how many sells they miss simply by not being able to take cash. We ended up going to Charlie T's for some snacks & drinks and talked the bartender on the deck into a bucket of ice, great folks there. I kept an eye out for any anderson area THT'ers, didn't see any. Don't you live on the water close to Charlie T's
I live on the Seneca River at S40. Next time you need ice give me a hail on 16. "Toy Too"
I have an ice machine in the garage, you are welcome to all you need.
The folks at Charlie T's are great, I stop by 3 or 4 times a week for a cold beer on my way home from work.
Good happy hour crowd there.
Capt Billy, I'd like to at least attend the "hand showing" that afternoon. Probably be a good party afterward. Out curiousity, what's the "Beer Tree" and "T-60 Grill (Tugaloo River marker 60???)"? I've been running Hartwell for 40 years and have never heard of either.
BTW Portman is a long way from where it was back in the70's and 80s. Good point, it would be a nice place for a marina.....

The little island near Portman and WCSC is called "beer tree" (by a bunch of us). Years ago there were a bunch of kids out there partying one night, the next morning there were beer cans stuck on the limbs of the few trees on the island. hence "Beer Tree"
Yes there is a restaurant near bouy T-60 and they named it for the bouy.
I wish I could make it, but I'm going to Edisto for a week.............seems to always fall at the same time. You're right auto............not too many places for beer and ice.........always a good idea to stock up before going out on Hartwell. Hey........Captain Billy I believe I've seen you a few times in the "TOY TOO"...........do you keep it on the coast or on Hartwell? I can't remember where I've seen you, but I have.
