Don't know about the 30 day rule. Caretaker stole a lot of my MIL's jewelry and took it to Wilmington to pawn. Pawn shop took pictures of it, but melted it down immediately. Therefore, police couldn't press charges even though they know she took it there, no evidence.

Chum, hope you get your stuff back and they put away the aholes that took it.

I hate a thief!

Our house was broke into about 5 years ago and never recovered anything. They did catch one guy and he took the wrap for all that were involved. What made it even worse was the insurance company! They are worse than the thieves. Pay all that money and think you are protected but your not. You have to prove that you owned it or they won''t pay for it. If I ever catch a thief in my garage they will not live to do it again. That I guarantee.....

Oh and Pawn Shops! If for some small chance that you find your gear or some of it, be prepared to buy it back! That's right. What ever the thief got for it, you will have to pay the pawn shop to get it back. Sucks beyond sucks!

If you have your serial number and a police report you get it back free.

Did they only steal fishing gear? Sounds like it may have been stolen for personal use if they did. Hate a thief. Had my inshore tackle box stolen out of a boat at a gas station in aurora last year. They left all the rods. Prolly got $20 bucks for a $800 worth of tackle. I guess it was an easy snatch and go for them.

Humm I hope your right. However, the pawn shop does not bare the responsibility of eating the cost of stolen property. Only if you can prove that they knew it was stolen, will you get it back for free. And then it will cost you some court fee money and time off work to prove it. When a pawn shop takes in merchandise they are not required to check to see if it is stolen. Firearms are different. If it turns out it is stolen then they have to be reimbursed any money that they are out. Some will try to get the interest money on that item but by law they can only demand the original value that they lent on the purchased item. The police report only prove it is yours and that you can buy it back. It sucks!

You can however sew the thief for any money that you are out and if he or she is released and placed on probation, it can be a restitution payment back to you.

Either way GOOD LUCK! Didn't work out for me and my household. Sucker got picked up on probation violation and severed his time. We are out everything!

I personally never had to do it but my customers have had equipment stolen. A police report was done and equipment was found at a pawn shop in Wilmington. He got back his saw after after I provided him with a copy of the Bill of the Sale with his serial number not paying anything. Don't know what recourse the pawn shop has on getting back there money they lost just know the two times I been involved in it as long as a police report is filed and serial numbers is verified my customers got there stolen property back with no out of pocket.

shoot me a message with your info or whatever and ill send it your way. Im in my second year fishing and a lot of people on here have given me some good advice and tips and stuff so the least i can do is pay it forward. Fishing is a large, but still small community in my opinion. No problem helping each other out. Thats what it is all about.

I hate a GD thief. Was this all they got, or did they get anything else? I only ask because something similar happened to a friend of our family. Turned out it was some of his son's friends. The cops told them from the start that it was likely someone he knew or had recently seen where his gear was stored. Hope you get your gear back and those lousy SOBs get burned.

Like everyone else, I HATE THIEVES !!!
Hence, I have SIMPLI SAFE at my house, including a motion detector in my garage and detached shed.
Plus, a well trained Belgian Malinois in the house full time.

I'm sure you have already done this, but in your area, check the pawn/gun shop in Hampstead. Can't remember what it is called, but its in that little strip area with other shops and lots of wood on the building.

Also in Hampstead, it's not a play it again sports, but its one like that.

Just 2 places I would check

Just heard they are stealing stainless props off boats in the area. They can get a quick 100.00 for them.

We had some similar issues over the years where I live. Most turned out to be young teens/early 20's looking for quick cash stealing things from the same neighborhood the live in.

I hate thieves as much as anybody.. they will be caught in the end.

Sorry this happened to you and I hope you get your stuff back ASAP
