Default SKA tournament trail.. you looked at it?

I have not fished many tournaments over the past few years as my oldest son was in college. This year my 12 yr old is really fired up about it. I told him I will run less charters this year and we will join the SKA. Then today I see the tournament trail?? I was really surprised to see the SKA leave out the OIFC tournaments and the Rumble in the Jungle as well. Am I wrong in thinking the SKA is forcing out Yamaha sponsors so Mercury has it all?

I really hope Brant will still have the family oriented tournaments. I can remember Jr Slinger's chest stuck out getting his first fish weighed in when we was @ 5 years old on the OIFC docks.

I do not think I will be joining the SKA this year after seeing this.. but will do all I can to support the local tournaments.

The Rumble is one of the biggest tournaments around.. WTW??

We looked yesterday and really only have 4 Ska events that are remotely close. We will fish those plus rumble and brawl. Unfortunately the last two won't count towards Ska but oh well.

I can't believe the US Open is becoming an ska event again. I am not sure how I feel about this.

I can't believe they are counting it as a Div 1 tournament.

I think one could put a fork in SKA. Sooner or later (probably sooner) they will go the way of the FLW tour ...

I think it is only a matter of time before someone takes the tournaments that were kicked out, and make a new series that will be successful. And I wish the US Open wasn't a SKA event but oh well.. it used to be fun...

^^^^ I haven't fished any tournaments in many years, I have watched things go down hill, with that said, and Capt Jim having a brilliant idea to pick up the tournaments and make a new and better series, I'll make a nomination for Capt Jim to head things up.

It's because of the amount of boaters from all over that enter that tournament. Like the rumble was division 3 and 9. But the open should be division 3 as well as 1 and 9 but that's my .02

I was excited to see the open until I saw the others not listed. Got em on is concerned about loosing their sanctioning due to being Yamaha sponsored. Some don't see an issue with mercury forcing those out. I think there's a much deeper issue going on. There is another tournament being held that is sposnsored by a motor company, not Yamaha, and is still sanctioned. If that stays on the schedule then I see it as a direct attack to Yamaha.

I dont see the ska being around much longer. Its sad as there were high hopes when it was taken over but seems no one listens to the fisherman.

Looks like the US Open is being held as both a SKA Div 1 and Div 9 tournament. Since SKA is pulling out of these nearby tournaments I would not be surprised to see more teams sign up to fish them.

haha.. I appreciate it!
I have had a conversation with a guy that puts on a few tournaments every year and it sounds like he has something up his sleeve.. I will wait to see but I don't think it will be long before we hear of something we will all be excited about..

Ok so this is going to be a dumb question for some of you but bare with me here.
I have owned my boat for almost two years now have done some king fishing, entered a couple tourneys last year but have always had a dream or goal you could say to do a bunch of tournaments, not looking to make big bucks (actually the exact opposite, im expecting to pay more money that i probably want to, haha) but tourneys are fun, and always nice to have those guys trips down to the beach.
Ok so here is my question, how does the ska tournament trail thing work? do you get points based on how you finish in the tournaments you enter? Is there a big tournament at the end, or a season long standings or something?
Thanks for any info you could give me. Im thinking about getting involved with this, this year.

Go to fishska.com, you will get all the info you need.

Basically you pay a membership fee each year. You fish the ska sanctioned events that are listed in your area or really wherever you want to fish. You get 1 point per lb of the fish you weigh. At the end of the season, or really who knows what may happen in the future if you finish in the top x number of boats for your division and class you get an invite to fish Nationals.

There's a lot of changes being made.

On the facebook page it has been noted by people with "information" that yes mercury told ska no tournaments sponsored by yamaha will be sanctioned. (Keep in mind that schedule is not finalized in anyway though as it will be a few more months before tournaments around us are 100% finalized) looks like we will be fishing 7+ tournaments this year due to some not being included in the ska.

Yes the ska is based on a points system. You get points based upon the weight of your fish in each division. You can fish multiple divisions but the points only count for the division in which the tournament is sanctioned with (if 2 divisions qualify for a tournament you must choose which division you want points for). At the end of the year the the top 25 teams in each division in each class qualify for nationals.

That's the short version of how it works.

Also with the Us Open going to Division 1 as well as 9, I wouldn't be surprised to see the boundaries go away or at least extended to well North of Cape lookout and a check out added up that way.

I highly doubt that. That was an issue back when there wasn't any boundaries in the open. I don't think it being ska sanctioned is going to change that. It has more to do with where the boats come from that fish it.
