Default Squid Wings Between Raleigh and Hatteras?

Back in the day when we used to fish out of MHC, we would get squid wings from Captain Stacy's in AB. I have never seen them at any of the tackle shops between Raleigh and Hatteras. Anyone know of a source? Alternatively, if anyone lives in Raleigh, but goes to MHC/AB that could pick some up for me on their next trip, I'd gladly pay them.

I order them from the local fish market in Little River. You could probably do the same. If not I can get you hooked up down here. I think a 30 lb box is @ 75 bucks?

Wow that's more than a 40 pound flat of Boston Mackeral costs down at Beaufort.

Have you ever tried BM? We used squid wings before on the headboats in Morehead city. The Capt Stacy used more than we did on the Continental Shelf. Many times when the fish were picky they wouldnt touch the squid. People would pick threw the just to use the BM. Eventually we went to only BM. Also the Boston Mackeral heads are deadly with groupers and other bigger fish. So they serve as 2 different baits if you are bottom fishing. The oily scent attracts bottom fish more than squid.

I assume you are bottom fishing?

Just an idea happy fishing.

lumberman,
Thanks for the recommendation. I am heading back down to Hatteras today and am going to stop by a couple of markets to see if they can order some.

captain28570,
Thanks for the suggestion. It has been a while since I used Boston Mackerel or seen it in one of the shops, but might look for it as alternative as well. We use a lot of False Albacore for bait until it warms up and all the sharks are around. During the summer you have to switch over to squid to keep them from biting. Maybe since BM is less bloody it will not attract them like FA. Worth a try.

Thanks!

Once the BM is salted down it makes almost no mess and no blood at all. It's tough on the hook to. Many times beeliners wouldn't touch squid but with BM they would be chewing. T

There is a bait place down Hwy 101 in Beaufort. Down towards the Parker factory. It's called cape point fishery. It's online if you need the info. The guy is really nice.

I go back and forth from morehead back here to Wilson about every other weekend and can grab you some and meet you with it.. Teaches always has the bulk squid( big squid) in the out side cooler during the summer and sells it by the pound.. It's all over the boxed up squid..
