Default Info on the Shallotte River area

I'm trying to get some local information of the Shallote river, specifically around Shell Point as we're looking at a peice of property near the river.

Does anyone know if there is a route from the mouth of the little Shallotte river to the ICW that would allow a 18" draft boat to navigate? I'd be putting my boat in at a ramp on the point of Shell Point.

I've fished the area some, but would love any information about fishing up the Shallotte and Little Shallotte river. What is the depth like further up the river? Are there any other boat ramps around Shell Point, etc.

Thanks much for any feedback!

Also, if anyone knows of any fishing friendly properties in the area please let me know.

I've never taken a boat past Shallotte Point but I have ridden my Waverunner up the river. There's several commercial boats that dock up the river across from Shell Point so there's very adequate depth there at least part of the time. Also, I remember seeing about a 25 foot boat docked very near Shell Point. It may have been on a lift, I don't remember. I'll try to get more info.

I have a close friend (tht'er Betweenhulls) that has a place right at the ramp @ Shell Point...
It is a very narrow channe and abit dicey during full low tide but there a numerous amounts
of boats on up lil Shallotte River on lifts...on high tide you are fine as long as you know the
channel but it "wanders" somewhat.....very, very nice area though......

You'll be fine on good tides. At low you will really want to learn the river. You should be fine with 18 inches after running it a few times and learning it. Great area though and plenty of good fishing. Tight lines, hope the netters don't bother you too much.

Thanks guys for the real good info. I took a trip to look at the property and it was dead low tide at full moon, so the river was very low. There sure are a lot of twists and turns. I'm hoping to get in an offer this week after we get a new appraisel! Looks like a good area.

Thanks again.
