Default BFT 12-20-05

The seas were very nice, and lots of fish were hooked up. There was a nice temp break out 26 miles and we were lucky enough to get two strikes and boat one fish!!! Then the bad weather set in, if only it was open Fri and Sat.

Nice going John. We had exactly the same thing. Had a double, and one broke off on it's second run. I've heard of some fish being caught closer in, so maybe we won't have to make that long (for this time of year) run offshore next week. Also heard that those fish have moved even further off.

Guess we met in a sort of odd situation, didn't we? I'll give you a call Monday. I'm planning on fishing Wed. and Thurs. for sure. And maybe Tuesday as well.

The Harpoon category closed at: 23.1 mt out of 90.0 mt. Longline North: 13.8 mt out of 116.3 mt to date. Longline South: 5.1 mt out of 72.1 mt to date. Trap category: 0.0 mt out of 3.8 mt to date. Purse Seine category: 178.3 mt out of 530.0 mt to date. Landings updates will be made as necessary, Monday through Friday

Currently, NMFS maintains the remaining Restricted Fishing Days Scheduled for December/January.

Depending on the level of fishing effort and catch rates of BFT, NMFS may determine that additional retention limit adjustments are necessary. (As a reminder, when fishing under the General category regulations, the daily retention limit is two large medium or giant Atlantic bluefin tuna (BFT), measuring 73 inches (185 cm) curved fork length (CFL) or larger when the General category is open). Closures, additional waiving of RFDs, or subsequent adjustments to the daily retention limits, if any, will be published in the Federal Register. In addition, fishermen may call the Atlantic Tunas Information Line at (888) 872-8862 or (978) 281-9260, or access the Internet at www.nmfspermits.com for updates on quota monitoring and retention limit adjustments. This notice is a courtesy to BFT fishery permit holders to help keep you informed about your fishery. Official notice of Federal fishery actions is made through filing such notice with the Office of the Federal Register. For further information contact Brad McHale, 978-281-9260.

The remaining Restricted Fishing Days scheduled for December and January are still in place. Therefore, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays starting on December 23 are closed to General category BFT fishing.
