Random Quote: You say I'm a compulsive fishing freak like that's a bad thing
I have one that makes ice continuously. The cubes come out wet and keep melting. They are good for someone who uses ice all the time, like a business. I purchased a 5 cu freezer and fill plastic bags to freeze between fishing trips and turn off the ice maker.
If I had it to do overI would get one like the refrigerator freezer that stops when the tray is full.
I've got an undercounter unit that makes about 50lbs a day of clear ice, lasts much longer than cloudy ice that is full of air. It constantly makes ice & melts in the hopper. To stock up for high demand weekends, the best thing to do is to fill paper grocery bags with ice and put them in the deep freezer. The paper wicks away most of the water on the surface of the cubes & makes them stick much less. We also fill all milk jugs, OJ cartons, ect & freeze them, a big block of ice like that will make the smaller pieces in the cooler lasts much better.
I have one like autobaun has. It stops making when the hopper is full. I also fill my freezer (and neighbors) , but I've been using plastic bags, and yes the cubes do freeze together. Easy enough to break apart tho. Haven't heard of using paper bags, but makes sense. I'll try that. Great tip!!!

I have a 250 lb Hoshi on a 500 lb bin in my garage.
Next to the boat and dock it is the most important thing you can own living on the water!

I've been preaching the benifits of such a find piece of machinery to my parents, I am more than willing to pay for it, but mom says it will take up too much room. I think I will prove it's necessity by melting all the ice & making her drink her crown warm, that should do the trick.

HOT CROWN
That ought to do the trick.
All of our neighbors have the “code” for our garage and use it as well.
I take it that you are on hartwell, in which case you probably have a similar situation to us, we are literally 20 minutes from the nearest town, and there is only one gas station & one marina that is reasonably close, both of which run out of ice every holliday weekend, and often on normal summer weekends.
If you live near Raleigh you should check out the State surplus property warehouse. I was there a couple of weeks ago looking for a desk and saw about four of them. They seemed to be in pretty good shape and i imagine you could get a great deal on one.

Yep, I am off exit 14 near Portman, on the Seneca River.
The best part is not having to go to the store, buy bags of ice, move them from the truck to the cooler and then on down to the dock.
Now I put my cooler on the golf cart, load it with ice and drive down.
Tell them to put it in the garage, hey will love it and in a year will not be able to figure out hoe they lived without it.
the lake house doesn't have a garage at this point, she feels that all of the room in the storage space should be reserved for garden tools and whatnot, IMO they should go in the shed in the back yard, it's not like they get used that often anyway. The shed doesn't have water run to it, and would be a real hike to the dock.
when I was at clemson we would frequently put my folks boat in at the DNR landing next to the sailing club and ride down to the new charlie T's there on the lake, got stopped by the DNR on several ocations, they thought we were insane to be out on the lake at night making that run, pretty easy with GPS and a spot light though.

I stop by Charlie T’s almost every night on the way home and have a few Bud Selects. Next time you are there ask someone to point out Captain Billy, I’ll be at the bar.
I’ll buy ya a beer. I have never met anyone in person from THT (except all the guys I already knew before finding this site)

I have a 600 lb/day in the garage. Fill up 6 54 qt coolers when we go offshore. We are putting a 600lb machine in the new boat. Then I will not have to mess with filling the coolers.

Chad, most of the items at the State surplus warehouse are bid items. Here's a link to their website: http://www.doa.state.nc.us/ssp/
Click on the link to "Classifieds" and you can bring up a search menu. When i did that and typed in "ice machine", four items came up. Definitely 'caveat emptor, though, so you might want to check them out for yourself.

Another place to look, is at restaurant auctions. Check the local classified ads on Sunday. I saw two Hoshizaki's go for a good price when the Darryls on Hillsborough St. was auctioned off. A guy from a refrigeration company bought them both. Since he was going to resell them, bidding against him was like buying them wholesale.
