Default bluefin charter recommendations out of MHC?

We'd like to learn how to fish for bluefin tuna and I thought that the first step would be to see how some pros do it. Are charter captains out of MHC willing to teach their clients how to fish for bluefin (what kind of tackle/spread they're using and where they are found)? Besides learning, I think it would be fun to hook up with one (but not one too big). Is it unreasonable to expect the captain to "give away some of his secrets?" Can anyone recommend any captains that might be willing to teach us, and what price range are we talking about? I was thinking about doing this as a Christmas present for my husband, and of course, I'd just HAVE to tag along! ;-)

And how long are bluefin in the MHC area?

Thanks for any advice!
Meg

That is exactly what you want to do. Lots of fun and need some experience to make it safe.

Check you pm and good luck.

Thank you secondtonone and gameover. I'll look into it.

wolfpack03: Yep, I'm still hanging around. Mostly lurking... learning lots about how and where to fish. We're still timid about going out very far, but we went out to the NW places over Thanksgiving looking for kings, but only got a couple of hits, no hookups. We have caught some kings around AR315 earlier this fall (10 pounders). The false albies will have to wait until next year; we couldn't get close enough to the small pods. Maybe next year we'll get more comfortable with the boat and go to the east side of the CL shoals. Tight lines!

Thanks everyone!

I would be happy to take him... $200.00 or so. The biggest issue is the weather. If you have been watching the weather lately the windows of opportunity a very small. Not only that but out of 400 boats a day fishing only maybe 25 or so actually catch one. It's like hunting for a needle in a hay stack. Right place at the right time. I caught a 538 lb. last year. I have only been twice this tear and so far one hook up thats it. But that want stop me.
Call me at 910-612-2678 and we'll set something up.

I would recommend Second to None and Dancin' Outlaw. Both are Morehead waterfront operators that can get it done.

Strikezone 1: Thank you for your generous offer, but in talking with my husband, we decided we'd rather go after yellowfin tuna first. I think the bluefins will be a bit more than we can handle....we're still relative beginners, and as you said, the windows of opportunity are few and far between at this time of year. I contacted Second to None and made reservations for a yellowfin charter in April.

Teamsharpend: Thank you for your recommendations. I'm glad more than one person has mentioned Second to None.

Tight lines!
